Why I'm No Longer a Republican- Gerry Myers


As Bush floundered, the brilliant and charismatic campaign and message of William Jefferson Clinton hit the scene and I voted for my first Democrat.
During the next eight years, I watched how President Clinton oversaw the longest peacetime economic expansion in our history; how the nation enjoyed the lowest unemployment rate in decades; how the home ownership rate grew to the highest it's ever been in the country's history; how he improved economic equality that led to a strong economy and a surplus federal budget. Though his tenure was plagued with scandals and impeachment, it is important to remember, he was acquitted of all charges.





If the controlled Supreme Court hadn't appointed Bush as president we would have had peace, further economic expansion and prosperity, and no deficit. Too bad not enough people are smart enough to see what the real Republican agenda is all about. If they would open their eyes and minds, they, too, would say they are no longer Republican.

I voted Republican a few times in my long life. But no more. Here is one reason why:

But, it was the creation of the Tea Party facet of the Republican Party in 2010 that turned me into a loyal Democrat, rather than an Independent. I don't feel I abandoned the Republican Party but, I do feel the Republican Party abandoned me. Their emerging views on government, religion, women's rights, workers' rights, income inequality, violence against women, equal pay for women, minorities' voting rights, made me move away from these radical ideologues as quickly as possible.

Poor woman must be terribly disappointed in Obama. He's the opposite of what she apparently valued. BTW, it was the GOP leadership that accomplished much of the above.

There was never a surplus and the facts support that position. In fact, far from a $360 billion reduction in the national debt in FY1998-FY2000, there was an increase of $281 billion.

Verifying this is as simple as accessing the U.S. Treasury.

Fact is that the economy thrived under Clinton and would have done so under Gore. The WTC would still be standing and we would be at peace. Frankly, we would be better off under Benedict Arnold than under Bush.

After listening to their rhetoric year after year, I realized that they had made me an angry person. After Limbaugh was exposed as a hypocrite for his arrest and illegal prescription drug addiction, I turned off talk radio and Fox News and have been trying to reclaim my soul after 6 years in the darkness. Witnessing the continued republican support for Bush during and after his crusade against the middle east, it solidified my decision to never jump on another republican bandwagon.

Not going to lie, this makes me want to say some things that would get caught in the filter for significantly more legitimate reasons. I sincerely hope that he's shot himself in the foot to the point where he can never successfully be elected. He's running against an incumbent, so if the state GOP's fairly certain that they're going to lose, they might be more willing to field wing-nuts there and electable candidates elsewhere.

I was the same. My father was a huge dittohead and so was I. Now, I can't stand to listen to him. I seriously doubt I will ever vote Republican again, even if the moderates take charge again. I have changed a lot since 2000.

It's actually sad seeing that some of these people feel that politics should run their life. I consider myself a conservative, but Jesus is my foundation and that is where I get all of my beliefs and most of conservative beliefs agree with the Bible, so that is why I call myself a conservative even if a few of their beliefs I don't agree with. And to the people who changed their beliefs because of OTHER people's actions..I've never understood that nonsense. So because other people with similar beliefs do something you think is bad you're going to change your whole belief system? That's like "Christians" who say they don't like all the things Christians are saying in America today, so they become a Muslim or atheist. Obviously they weren't very rooted in God in the first place if they changed their beliefs because of other people. And it's sad how often I see this ridiculous claim...
