Basically my question boils down to "Doesn't legislating your religion into law violate freedom of religion?"
Yes it does, but consider this:
Smoking marijuana is illegal, but should it be; since Rastafarians consider this an essential part of their religion? ( I suspect you might not care either way )
Satanists sacrifice humans sometimes - should murder be made legal in order to not step on the toes of religious freedom? What if a religion comes into fruition that believes in pedophilia, or rape, or robbery - should we shift laws to accomodate them in the name of religious tolerance? And what of religions with contradicting religious beliefs, whose should be legal and whose illegal?
I would tend to agree that Christians are very guilty of legislating religious beliefs on people instead of seeking to change hearts. However, where should the line be between religious freedom and moral legislation?
