Why Exactly is Satan Bad?

I know I know, this must sound like the most ignorant and idiotic question but I still need to ask it. Why exactly is Satan (the devil) evil or bad? I have read the bible many times and in differant versions, researched and the lot in my studies but I just don't see how Satan is this supremely evil character.

Well the Bible tells us that Satan was the first to rebel against God. We read this in Isaiah 14:12-19:

12 “ How you are fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer, son of the morning!
How you are cut down to the ground,
You who weakened the nations!
13 For you have said in your heart:

‘ I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;
I will also sit on the mount of the congregation
On the farthest sides of the north;
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,
I will be like the Most High.’
15 Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol,
To the lowest depths of the Pit.
16 “ Those who see you will gaze at you,
And consider you, saying:

‘ Is this the man who made the earth tremble,
Who shook kingdoms,
17 Who made the world as a wilderness
And destroyed its cities,
Who did not open the house of his prisoners?’
18 “ All the kings of the nations,
All of them, sleep in glory,
Everyone in his own house;
19 But you are cast out of your grave
Like an abominable branch,
Like the garment of those who are slain,
Thrust through with a sword,
Who go down to the stones of the pit,
Like a corpse trodden underfoot."

Here we learn that it was Satan or Lucifer's pride that caused him to be cast out of Heaven along with a third of the angels in Heaven. We also learn of Satan's evil which caused the fall of man in Genesis. The Bible calls him the prince of the air which is why we have sickness. All through out the Bible we have countless verses that state Satan being the supreme evil one. Why is he? I don't know. I believe only God knows.

Satan thought he could be perhaps better than God.

Satan did not know his place, as a created angel.

Well, for starters, God does not rebel against Himself, and He speaks thus;

Mark 3:24
And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

Mark 3:26
And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.

Satan is divided against the Lord, this much is hopefully obvious to your conscience, if not let me know..hehe

Jesus goes on speak like this, when praying for believers on His Holy Name;

John 17:21
That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

Galatians 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Therfore, as Christians we are not divided from God, but One with Him, as an extension of His Being

Satan gets his life from God, just like all creatures do!
He refuses to come to the Lord so that he may HAVE Life on a moment by moment basis, but God does not relinquish the gift just yet, for Satan, unbenounced to him serves God's purpose dutifully

To NOT come to the Lord of Hosts for Life is synonymus with seeking to establish your own righteousness, your own kingdom, if you will! And God is not mocked! He has shed forth His Light in the Face of Christ Jesus, and to those who refuse there will be utter darkness!

Okay.. well I was hoping someone would be able to dissuade me. I didn't want to say this becuase I could not defend the position on this forum without breaking some kind of rules and I did not want to make waves so to speak. I just find Satan to be a more good being then God. I know for you this sounds redicilious but to me it makes much sense. I am a seeker and still wishing to possibly convince myself of Jesus but I knew arguing for what I currently belief would label me as just being here to cause a nuisance and I don't want that.

That was uncalled for and pretty mean. Unless this was a tongue in cheek reference I don't sacrifice humans..I am not even a believer Satan exist or anything. I am an agnostic, the dilemma I faced was when I was trying to find Jesus, become a Christian and possibly fill this emptiness I half inside, I was sadly dissapointed to read the bible..and not jsut once but many times and find that the devil..who..I assumed was the bad one..seemed more just. I still don't believe they exist and want to convince myself if I can the contrary and believe in God and Jesus but this little snag has got me questioning if I really do want to be a Christian...as do people like you..

Don't use me as an excuse for rejecting God. However, if you see justice in the actions of Satan, then there is little that anyone could say that would make any sense to you.

I will tell you that you don't find peace in the Bible, you find it with the Holy Spirit. The Bible is merely a letter to the world, therefore it is a guide to study for answers to things that may allow us to open the door to Him.

What I here you saying is that you want to talk about the nature and origin of good and the nature and orgin of evil.

Let us start the nature of Good and then go to evil.

What is Good.

The bible state that when God created the heaven and the earth it was good, good , good, very good. (gen1)

GOOD—Synonyms 1. pure, moral, conscientious, meritorious, worthy, exemplary, upright. 2. commendable, admirable. 5. obedient, heedful. 6. kindly, benevolent, humane, gracious, obliging. 23. full, adequate. 24. profitable, useful, serviceable, beneficial. 25. efficient, proficient, capable, able, ready, suited, suitable, dexterous, expert, adroit, apt. 46. Notice defintion 24. benefical. to be good is to have some benifit there is intresensic value.

so the world was created benifical, benifical, very benifical with inherent value.

The bible also says that god alone is good . so if god alone is good then he must be the source of everything of value and benifit.

If god is the source of everthing good and valubale then to rebel against him like satan did would be to rebel against everything good and valuable.

Dear Jakkaru, the Bible tells us that Satan dropped from Heaven, and is the Amalgamation of Evil. Since then this Evil has grown and grown, and everything, and everybody that is the opposite of Love, has joined Satan, and his power has grown. Satan is God`s Enemy, as evil is the enemy of good. Satan believes that in time his power will be greater than God`s, but Jesus has already vanquished Satan on Golgotha, only Satan`s pride won`t let him believe it. Satan is everything abominable, vile, and downright evil, he, and his followers, hate Jesus, and all Jesus stands for. One of Satan`s greatest lies, is to blind all humanity, to believe in his evil existence, he will promise all, and keep nothing. Christ is our Saviour and our Protector, with Jesus Christ near us, Satan can only pretend. I hope I can help you, if only a little. I know what it is like to be confused about religion and what you believe but please trust me when I say that Satan is not just or good; but he loves it when people think that.

John 8:44 (ESV)
"You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies."

I hope you will consider doing some research and/or reading through The Bible again, but instead of just reading, pray that God will show you The Truth of His Word so that you may be enlightened by Him and follow His will. Satan wants people to reject God and His grace, he wants people to believe there is no God (and no Satan for that matter), and he wants you to be cynical. It gives him the opportunity to wedge his lies into your mind. I struggle with thoughts and lies that are put into my head all the time. I know it sounds silly, but it really makes a lot of sense.

Satan is created just, he once sat on the Mercy Throne! But his brand of justice won over, as he denied God's brand of Justice [tempered by Mercy]..

That devil became everything he embodied when he turned away from the Living God, Jakkaru! Everything twisted and evil, unholy and unfit for Heaven!

Satan does not judge with Mercy, like God did and does by sending His Only Son to die for our sins!

Neverthless, God is God! And He is in TOTAL control over the creation, in spite of Satan's railings!

God's plan is a plan of redemption, Satan's is a plan for destruction..

The Bible tells us that the devil is the great deceiver who promises but does not deliver in truth. He is the contrast to God's light that receeds as the light approaches. Indeed, the devil would do anything to have the power of God and is king of selfish pride and ambition. It is that same pride and arrogance that we have in the sin and death nature we are all born with and inherit from Adam. It is only through the new birth, spiritually being "born again", that we can overcome that old ature of sin and death that thinks only of self and one's own egotistical desires. I JOHN 3:16-19 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and truth. This then is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence whenever our hearts condemn us.
