Why don't you use your photograph as an avatar

Our of curiosity, how come so few people here use their photgraph as their avatar? I think I am the only one I have come across who uses their photograph as an avatar.

Is there something I am missing here?

Personal preference is all it is. I don't like seeing a photo of myself constantly so I'm happy to not have it there.
