Right, destroyed, not lingering pain.
Matthew 10:28

Well I am certainly not arguing for infinite torment/torture - but there is some finite amount as Luke 12 points out. Christ says it is all proportional to what one has done and how much information they have to work with.

Luke 12:46 then the master of that slave will come on a day that he does not expect, and at an hour that he does not know, and will cut him in two, and assign him a place with the unbelievers. 47 And that slave who knew his master’s will and did not get ready or act in accordance with his will, will receive many blows, 48 but the one who did not know it, and committed acts deserving of a beating, will receive only a few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.

Yes according to Luke 12:3, wouldn't it be a hoot if everyone of us had to stand in front of every other being that ever lived at judgement and have our inner thoughts exposed in contrast to what we seemed to be saying or doing on the outside all through our lives. What we really were like and thinking in any situation. I guess with eternity there would be time to go through us all and deservedly embarrass us all.

I am thinking it will be a case where God hits "instant replay" in the mind of each lost person and they see their own life in fast-forward.

During the 1000 years the saints are raptured to heaven and review the cases of the wicked as 1 Cor 6 reminds us - Rev 20 and Rev 2 say the saints "Rule with a rod of iron" during that time - meeting out the punishment for the wicked according to their deeds.

But before that judgment is executed the wicked are allowed to see their own case - see just how it is that God was loving, just and fair in their case - and yet they stubbornly refuse the gospel. That reaction is then added to the record books of history in heaven. It is needed to complete the set of data - used to inoculate all the universe against sin.

Perhaps but where is the fun if we aren't exposed to each other for who we really are. We spend a lifetime here covering it up. Only fair to turn the tables.

Well that exposure happens for the lost during the 1000 years -- 1 Cor 6 reminds us that the saints are judging during that time and they do see the unmasked cases of the wicked at that time.

Yes but even the 'saints' must have faced themselves first.

Talking a lot on here about the end of days because of all the stuff that is going on in the world, and it is scary to me because I just started my 30s and if the world is going to end, in the meantime here life will be very dark and miserable anyway. My question is why couldn't God just zap all the "problem" people away but otherwise allow this world to live on as usual and let the more benevolent people go into leadership and institutional positions again. Why does God sound like he wants to throw the baby out with the bathwater? I know what the Bible may say, but why do I even need to be part of his plan, whatever it is?
OK so who are the "problem" people?
Do  you consider yourself to be "benevolent"?
If you can't honestly answer those questions, then you don't understand the concept of sin.
Sin means to "turn away". We've turned away from relying on God and following his path and turned toward relying on ourselves and following our own ways.
No, you don't have to be a part of his plan, he gave you a choice. (Spiritual life or spiritual death).

As far as leadership goes, Jesus is the leader of all creation.

Yes I agree there needs to be some kind of judgement, but can it be done in a way that doesn't disrupt the current lifestyles of people?
What "lifestyles"? You mean human beings following their own way? Deciding for themselves what is right and wrong, instead of Gods way?

The belief that there is an "end of days" is popular in the Christian community. Not saying that it is true or not, but if there is an end of days soon I feel a little bummed even if I am supposed to feel happy about it.
Maybe download the bible project app. They discuss scripture in easy to digest videos and their podcasts often discuss the original meaning of some Hebrew words that have been narrowly translated to English. I found this helped me because I also had the same fears after coming to Christ.
