Why does the world need to "end"?

Talking a lot on here about the end of days because of all the stuff that is going on in the world, and it is scary to me because I just started my 30s and if the world is going to end, in the meantime here life will be very dark and miserable anyway. My question is why couldn't God just zap all the "problem" people away but otherwise allow this world to live on as usual and let the more benevolent people go into leadership and institutional positions again. Why does God sound like he wants to throw the baby out with the bathwater? I know what the Bible may say, but why do I even need to be part of his plan, whatever it is?

There needs to be a judgement. If there's no judgement, sin goes unpunished & a just God can't do that.
Yes I agree there needs to be some kind of judgement, but can it be done in a way that doesn't disrupt the current lifestyles of people?

First off, the world is not going to end. The world is not going to end and there is no reason to believe that it will. And what you have laid out -zapping away the bad people, etc.- is the more likely outcome. Things will get bad until some earth-shattering event happens, and then things will get better again. That cycle will likely continue for eternity.

Many questions about God that start with "Why.." do not have answers. And that is OK. If it helps, think of us humans as the family dog, and think of God as the human caring for that dog. Of course the difference between us and God is infinitely greater than the difference between dogs and people. But this imperfect analogy is still good enough to make the point. If my dog could ask questions, he might ask why every once in a while I take him to this strange building with other dogs and people in white coats. And one of the men in white coats pokes him a needle that hurts, and I allow it to happen, and even assist in holding him still. My dog knows that I love him, but if he stopped to think about it, he can't understand why I let this happen to him. But when we get home he accepts me as his master and trusts that I love him anyway. The concepts of why things happen to him are beyond his understanding, and so I don't try to make him understand. I just ask him to trust me.

That's like what God does. He asks us to trust Him and to trust in His love for us. We can ask questions. It is good to do so. It is in our nature to ask questions. But we must remember that some questions that we might ask, especially those that involve the mind of God, might be questions for which no answer is found. It is at times like that when we must not make assumptions based on our inability to answer a specific question.

The question at hand, why must God bring the world to an end, and why doesn't he "zap away" all the bad people, is one such question. We can speculate on what God's reasoning might be. But we must never forget that our speculations on God's reasoning is just speculation. In some instances, God has revealed certain aspects of His mind to mankind through revelations, notably in the scripture we call the bible. But unless it is explicitly revealed by God directly or through His church, it is unwise to draw solid conclusions from our puny powers of understanding. If you have a dog, think about all the questions your dog cannot answer about you, even though you have revealed some things about your mind such as your commitment to provide him with the food he needs. ("Give us this day our daily bread....")

The belief that there is an "end of days" is popular in the Christian community. Not saying that it is true or not, but if there is an end of days soon I feel a little bummed even if I am supposed to feel happy about it.

All of the handwringing over "marks of beasts" and the end of the world is based on an intentional mis-reading of the Revelation. It's mainly based on the idea of the Pope being the antichrist among a lot of protestants five hundred years ago that has now spiraled completely out of control. Whenever you hear someone bleating on and on about it you can feel free to ignore them.

If you really stop to consider how this world was made, and even the Universe itself, you would realize that there are and have always been many opportunities for people to "start over somewhere else" all throughout history.
That's essentially what happened when a way was discovered to the New World ( now called the USA) or to China, the North and South Poles, Australia, the Moon, etc.
When God created, you might say He planned for the exploration of His creation, because it would be a necessary alternative to continually starting over again, and again, etc. every time that a Man messed up his life with sin.

Yeah, well, in the story of the flood, it seemed that there was only a handful of people left, and even then, most of them were spared on account of one man who found favor with God. There are no such benevolent people that deserve a standing on a square-foot of this earth. Humans are corrupt, even when they tell themselves that they are good people. God desires to change hearts, not simply destroy everyone on a whim.

Besides this point, where there is light, shadows exists. We live in a world of opposites that complement each other, and give rise to balance in the world. You could say that evil is necessary.

That does closely follow the definition of insanity in this quote "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

However, if God does not need to expect anything, would it still be insanity?

Only Satan and Judas could say that evil was necessary, and be correct.
For the rest of us, it is good that is necessary, because good brings Life, does not destroy life, and continues to support it's continuous existence.

Yes, there is. You can do whatever simple pleasures of the world while you live and then you die (of old age hopefully) and then you will face judgment.

But enjoying your life in the ways of the world isn't the goal of Christianity.

In fact, Jesus in the Bible said you will lose your salvation if you try to save your life or "find" your life in this world. Ironic isn't it?

Because we are waging a war with the evil one. The world is the devil's domain (1 John 5:19). So if we are looking to find a life in this world, we are also making friends with the devil and helping the devil win.

The universe including the world is corrupted by the curse of the fall and God's plan is to create a New Heavens and a New Earth replacing the old with what will be infinitely more glorious.

Evil can multiply on itself, growing over time, intensifying, so that what was once a shocking evil begins to seem just normal to the people.... So that slanders for example become normal, just what everyone does.... (we are not there yet, but it's been getting worse....)

...gradually evil can become the most powerful influence, overwhelming any other influence -- so that even every child becomes corrupted by the evil influence and trained into the evil... -- so that matured, the evil begins to totally dominate a culture/nation/region. Even the world.

For example:

5 The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.

6 The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.

7 So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.”

8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. 9 This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. 10 Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.

11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence.
-- Genesis chapter 6

Notice the wording of that situation: "every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time."

Once things get to that point, with zero love or compassion or kindness, just violence: "Now the earth....was full of violence."

Then a massive reset is the only practical possible course of action.

It's like a field totally overgrown with harmful weeds....

No amount of pulling weeds would help...seeds are everywhere for new weeds, and they are sprouting everywhere. The field cannot be weeded....

The the only course of action is something like: plow it under. Make a New World. Like this:
Isaiah 65:17 For behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.

It will happen.

In the end, when evil overwhelms the world again, even though Christ came to teach what is good, and make an easy way for all to turn and repent -- when evil overwhelms the world again even despite that....then it will be time, I think, to end this world as it is, and bring the New one to come.

As that final collapse into evil gets nearer, it will look like this along the way:

1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

We are not even close to that yet, I think.

There are still many people that love what is good, and won't slander others, and act with kindness, doing charity, and loving their neighbors....

So, we aren't yet close to that.

But, it might be the world is gradually starting a slide towards that. Watch to see if the evils listed above in those 5 verses just above begin to increase and increase....
