I Found a place in the OT, 1st Samuel chapter 8 whereby GOD punished Israel for rejecting him by giving them what they wanted, a king who would enslave them. For rejecting GOD.

<<< Fast Forward..America 2009>>>
In Genesis 12:3, God said to Abraham,
I will bless them that bless you, and curse him that curses you, and in you shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

As it stands right now, we at one time were blessed. more recent times we have seen our soon to be old president, try to get involved in dividing Jerusalem, a REAL no-no since the holy temple Mount is GOD's and will be the place of his throne during his 1,000 year reign. But we have to look at the US in a larger time frame. Back several decades ago,Madalyn Murray O'Hair, a self proclaimed atheist, won a court battle which ended daily prayer in public schools in the case: Murray v. Curlett. We let it happen.

In Cross City Florida, the ACLU sued and won over removal of the ten commandments from in front of offices of the court. We allowed it to happen..again!

Now there's a push to get "in GOD we trust" taken off our currency.

so as to not drag out a long post here, with these few acts of removing GOD from our nation, do we need to be surprised that we are having this issue with our economy? that we have such nasty and filthy politicians and rich profit players who have "STOLEN" peoples life savings, we have businesses who are taking money and still being irresponsible at the cost of it's citizens.

I have to laugh whenever I hear "GOD Bless the US" because we, like Israel, are reaping what we have sown for so many years/decades.

this presents another issue. first, our so called fore-fathers built this nation on a belief of separation of church and state. why separate GOD from our nation when GOD GAVE us government? GOD told Noah back In Genesis 9:6 " Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man." here's the establishment of government/capital punishment.

I don't think the US is a blessed country with all the filth I see going on in this nation.

just my personal thinking

I've thought about this too, and I'm not really sure whether America is blessed or cursed. On the one hand, Christians experience virtually no persecution in America (the worst we hear of is Christian kids being made fun of at school). The Gospel can be spread freely, and churches receive no violent opposition.

On the other hand, their is a famine for the word of God in this country. Biblical illiteracy seems to be on the rise. In other countries people worship physical idols. Here we do that (liberal churches worship all kinds of "icons" and pantheons of saints), but we also practice an idolatry of money and goods. Not to mention that our government has supported corrupt dictatorships overseas in the name of spreading capitalism and democracy. There are days when I think that America should be on its face in repentance because we haven't been wiped out yet.

You might be on to something...

I think you are both on to something. I'd like to add that I think that maybe what people see as a nation blessed could really be the reflection of Christians who are blessed on to our nation. My point being, many people perceive it as the nation is blessed when it is really many of its people are blessed and sharing those blessings.

I think all three of you are on to something!
As far as saying "God Bless the US" I think all Christians should be crying this prayer out to the Lord not as a slogan, but as a plea. We have been a very blessed country for many, many years. But we lost our way and I think that God has given us over to the desires of our hearts just as He did in the Biblical days. So let our hearts in humbleness plea God Bless the USA.

I have always wondered this also. After hearing my pastor say this every single Sunday, I ask how can we be blessed. With all the filth and sin our country spews into the world in the form of movies, music, etc. Taking God out of the classrooms and justice system. I believe we were blessed at one time, long ago, but we have kicked God out and now we will pay.

We need to pray for mercy.

What really amazes me is how blind, Christians are to the fact that we really are under attack spiritually..Satan is gradually taking away all our rights and priviliges that once made this a great nation...like you said take God out of things and we will fall. Christians have become way too complacent for too long to the point of we are now being fed a watered down gospel and tolerating it! Why don't Christians get an agenda, and start a march in Washington..let's make some headlines. Let's take our nation back .

Not to say that I don't agree with you, but even with the rampant sin flowing today... ancient Rome makes our country look tame. Public bath houses with mass orgies of both sexes... prostitutes on early every corner... political stranglehold on everyone of faith. Things are tough now... but they were much tougher in the past. Let's only pray it doesn't get that bad again.

in terms of eschatology, it will get worse(not bringing up to get off topic). But as I've watched though, we Christians aren't persecuted anywhere like they are in these foreign nations. But I have to say that a growing crowd for years have been complacent and more geared toward money. this to mean that they seem hung up on it. Alot I've heard over the years ask for wealth, new cars, new homes.

to be honest, I ask for more knowledge. Not money because I believe knowledge of GOD's word would be alot closer to GOD's will than monetary gain. I also believe that the more I read of GOD's word, the more I behave accordingly. I guess to try and live closer according to GOD's word.

I've had discussions where some folks believe that the monuments such as the Washington monument are actually masonic symbols, a basilisk.

Then again, Ancient Rome didn't murder one in five children before birth.

I don't have any statistics on this, but I do know that whereas Americans murder children by abortion, Romans used to simply leave them to die outside after birth. Whether we abort more children than they killed by infanticide, I do not know.

I do, however, know that the Didache (a rather ancient Christian document which describes the beliefs of the early church) specifically condemned abortion as a sin. So I suppose that the practice was around even then.

You might want to go do a little more research here. Much like the thread notes above... sure, they let them be born, but after that many were killed. There are mass graves to prove it.

However, I'll stop there. I don't want to sway us too far off topic. I don't want to be 'that guy'.
