  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You don't think God is clear about what he wants? And there is my conscience. No, It is not a knowledge problem. It certainly isn't God's fault. It isn't like I do bad and then say how I had no idea. I know what is right and good, but I still do what is wrong knowing full well it is wrong.

Why does God just make His will clear so we don't make mistakes in life.

He makes his will clear we just don't accept it right away.

Like idk about you but when I was a kid I couldn't take the "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" "fast/pray" "love your enemies, "sin not", seriously even though the bible is clear on those things, we are "born in sin and shapeth in inequity", and as a result an alternative ideoligy sounds more correct. The bible says all have sinned for a reason... we all at one point or even some on this chat now are succumbing to the devil, to the flesh, or to the world one of the 3 enemies that have caused all of us to sin at a point.

Proverbs 14:12King James Version (KJV)
12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

If a person LOVES all people.... helping those we see who have needs.... actually BELIEVING what JESUS says we should live .... without being lifted in pride and thinking of how good they must look to GOD....then our understanding is guided by HIS SPIRIT OF LOVE that is in us, understanding of HIS WORD as well as our daily lives being guided into situations that prove GOD is being our Light and guiding us.

JESUS said if our eye be single our whole body will be full of Light.... What HE has shown me about that verse is that if our focus is singularly on HIM... which would include BELIEVING what HE says enough to try to live it out toward ANYONE we may see .... Then when we do those acts of CARING without taking any credit for any of the good that is in us.... The LOVE in our hearts grows. Any good marriage counselor will tell people... if you do the acts that show LOVE then the feelings will follow.... If you saw the movie Fireproof it's an excellent example of that..... and it also applies to people with real needs such as those who are homeless.

Without me going into specific examples ( but would if you asked ) i can simply say that if GOD puts somebody in my path that needs help.... if i can... i do it.... That is the result of almost 19 years of praying for HIM to give me more LOVE... as well as many stumblings and failures on my part to grow me into who HE has me being today.... NOT that i think myself of any more value than you or anyone else on the planet.... but simply put i put a lot of stock in what JESUS says a sheep is in Matthew chapter 25.....

i also firmly believe that where the BIBLE mentions Rightly Dividing THE WORD.... is to understand that what JESUS teaches is the centerpiece and focus of what people should at least be trying to be .....

If we all just lived out JESUS and kept it simple and humbled ourselves like little kids ... praying for more LOVE and then showing it.... without getting tangled up in theologies and doctrines then there would be but one Church..... It is because people are not guided by the HOLY SPIRIT OF GODLY LOVE FOR ALL PEOPLE .... that there are all these different ideas.... SURELY if we all really believed and were seeking and asking HIM for more LOVE then you would not have even had to ask your question because the Christian world would actually have gotten it... and we would be in unity under HIS guidance in our lives.

What is boils down to is that the ONE who inspired HIS WORD to be written wants to guide our understanding of it... and when we are obedient to live it out not only the BIBLE becomes clearer but our everyday lives are actually guided.... i have learned that MANY TIMES and unwanted delay... ( say a traffic jam ) ends up putting me in the exact spot to be a help and blessing to someone who i would not have encountered had the delay not occurred... ( if you want examples let me know)..... Hope this helps some... i know it's terribly preachy...

but....

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge HIM, and HE shall direct thy paths.

We surely can't say we acknowledge HIM if we don't believe JESUS when HE tells us plainly how we are to treat all people... and we can't treat them that way without being child like in our hearts asking HIM to help us do it. Growing in HIS KIND OF LOVE is a process.... The parable about the talents in Matthew chapter 25 is about LOVE... We all start with a certain amount of CARING for others.....

If you want the short answer just read the last two paragraphs of my response above.... and PLEASE do not view me as some knowitall who is trying to straighten you out... i only say that because my intent is to be a help... and i don't know you or how you typically view people.

I think God does make His will clear but people muddy it up. I think by the time people get through with all their knowledge and theology, God is pretty unrecognizable but if you just go back to the simplicity of a child in knowing Him you'll see the God head just fine. At least that's been my experience. Also there are many people all up and through the Word that knew God's will but made mistakes. Think Abraham & Sarah, Jacob, Isaac, David, Jonah, etc. I also think it's in the sometimes repentance and correction of those mistakes that actually lead us to draw closer to the Lord and depend on Him. So all things work together for the good when we're in Christ, even our mistakes. :amen:

God's Will is very clear:

John 6:40
For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day."

John 6:29 (NLT)
Jesus told them, "This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent."

John 14:12
Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.

Therefore, God's Will is for us is to believe in Christ and do the works that Christ has been doing.

It depends on how you interpret "mistakes" but the life of Christ is certainly unenviable from a worldly perspective.

Free will. If we had a script on how to live life, then how would we have the ability to trust God and make the choice to follow Him or rebel and go our own way.

Selfishness and sin. Most of don't really want to do what God calls us to do ... which is sacrifice self for others. Most of the questions we want answers to are focused around making our own life better and easier..."who should I marry (so I can be happy)", "which job should I take (that I will enjoy or make a lot of money)", "where should I live (...in other words which place will make my life more comfortable). God doesn't promise any of those things...so we are usually having the wrong conversation with God. Not who will make me happy-but who can I serve?....not which job is fun - but which job can I serve God best?....which place will make my life nice to live-but where can I make a difference.?

So many good answers.
God isn't after robots that He programs and they just execute. Songs that say Take my will ... I think are missing what God wants. God is looking for friends who love Him. Jesus came and showed us His love for the Father and the Holy Spirit showed us what love looks like as well. They have loved each other for eternity. Now they want us to love one another they way they have always loved each other and loved us. If you don't know how to love someone talk with them and earn no to love them. Love isn't giving all, 1 Cor.13 its compassion and patients. And in Rom.13 Paul says love doesn't hurt your neighbor. Just don't hurt people is fulfilling the law of love and love is the only way to fulfill the law. I bet your are doing better at doing God's will than you think. So don't let the guilt people and the shame people separate you from God.

I don't think love is "just not hurting people". The only people who can hurt me are the ones I love. For example, if a person called me names or even beat me to a pulp, it may hurt my body or ego- but it can't hurt ME, not my essential self.

A misplaced word from someone I love can hurt. Not so a diatribe from someone who I don't love and whose opinion I care nothing about. The diatribe might annoy and irritate, but can not hurt.

Interesting perspective, Galatea.
It is biblical, the wounds of a friend are better than the kisses of an enemy. If someone I don't care anything about and who cares nothing for me was mean to me, it would not hurt my soul.

If I loved someone and he said something mean to me, it would hurt my soul- not just annoy or irritate.

I think of love as active and not passive and much more full bodied than simply not hurting people. People with excellent manners can not hurt people but they may have absolutely no love in them at all.

I agree that love is active and is reaching out to help people. For me I don't have the resources to help many people. So the rest of the people in the world I can love by not hurting them.
As Paul says: Rom.13:8-10
Owe no man anything, save to love one another: for he that loves his neighbor hath fulfilled the law. 9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not covet, and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 10 Love works no ill to his neighbor: love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.

You mean "why doesn't he" right...?

It is clear and is summed up in one word "Love"... But, "but" Godly Love and not the world's definition or immature concept of love, which is where, and why many stumble and do not comprehend...

To behold it and become it, (godly love) you need to separate yourself, (at least in spirit), (and be set-apart, or holy in spirit) from the spirit of, and the ways of, this world.

Otherwise, the world's ways will continue to make you feel this way (in your OP) about God's will, and will blind you from knowing what Godly Love (and God's will) is, cause the two are diametrically opposed, really... (Godly Love, and The worldly kind of Love)

Worldly Love is very deceiving and very craftily deceptive, cause it can seem to be right, and be Love, but it is really Satan's idea and main tool and is diametrically opposed to what Godly Love is, which is God's will for us...

God Bless!

I am currently on a quest to know Godly Love and become it, and I put a complete stop to listening to any worldly ideas about love, (for now) (in order to gain some clarity) and am looking to God's word to tell me and show me what Godly Love is, and I am finding it to be "different" from what the world does, is, and had told me "love" "was"...

You can join me if you like...?
