But is it a lie if someone knowingly deceives another into believing the lie is true?
Is this conversation going somewhere? are we going to add/delete/modify variables all day?

My question, now buried in a sea of red herrings, is simply this:

If Kent Hovind (or anyone) dies for what they believe to be true, will those who have been calling him (them) "liars" change their minds?

The point is that the man who was being referenced knowingly lies. That's why your line of argument is irrelevant.
To be honest, I forget who we're talking about now ... (Kent Hovind, probably).

So I'm going to disagree with you that he knowingly lies.

Do you mean like the 911 terrorists?

Yes, I'm often baffled when people assume that sincerity and depth of resolve somehow overrides all other evidence about a matter.

But "martyrdom" is a topic rife with illogical thinking.

For example, immediate after 9/11, the president and others said things like, "The terrorists were cowards" and "They hated us for our freedom"-----inane statements by any standard. After all, people would normally say that someone who was willing to die for their cause (especially when they could have changed their minds and chosen life at any time) was ANYTHING but cowardly. But in such contexts, the goal is to VILIFY an enemy. The facts and logic don't matter. So likewise, the 9/11 terrorists didn't "hate America because of our freedom". They hated America because of its support for Israel and what was considered by them evil meddling in the affairs of other peoples----especially, MUSLIM peoples who didn't want their politics and economies altered by "infidels."

So AV is following a common pattern. Emotions first. Logic and evidence last. (And I say that even as a Bible-affirming Christian who respects genuine martyrs. But respect doesn't require foolish conclusions, pseudo-science, or evidence denial.)

I'm going to disagree with your disagreement because he is in no reasonable danger of being killed for his beliefs.

Wherever you were going with your comments on death, they are irrelevant in Hovind's case.

I will disagree with you on this one judging from the fact that he is currently in prison serving 10 years for breaking the law. If he knowingly lies about his taxes, he is very well capable to lie about other stuff.

And it wasn't just the taxes, either. They were just dishonest people. They even went as far as taking money from a christian charity to pay for medical costs, claiming that they didn't have enough money to pay for the bills. Turned out, they owned several houses and properties and had tens of thousands of dollars sitting in the bank. They were just greedy, and took advantage of people to make more money. They thought they could hold on to more of their money by fooling The Man, but they lost.

At least justice was served.

That is one scary family. Kent Hovind was never the sharpest nail in the bin but his behavior in the 48 hours before his appearance before the judge for final sentencing was incredibly stupid and incredibly revealing about his character. First, you would think he would be smart enough to know that all phone calls to prisoners in jail are recorded. Secondly, making THREATS against the judge during recorded phone calls just before sentencing says a lot about his psychopathic and narcissistic personality disorders. Hovind had already exasperated the judge and the attorneys by all sort of time-wasting, idiot maneuvers claiming that his trial violated the constitution and the taxes he hadn't paid were unconstitutional. His threats against the judge make me wonder if he thought he could get the judge to somehow lose his cool or do something over the top that Hovind could then use with his followers to convince them "I'm being persecuted for my Christianity!" [Of course, that is his most repetitive whine while he is in prison. His other is, "I'm just having a great time in prison because I have lots of time to earn additional doctoral degrees!" And that is quite an accomplishment for a guy who never got even a basic undergraduate degree from an accredited college! LOL.]

KWCrazy,
I am still waiting for your definition for transitional fossil. What features would a fossil need in order to be transitional between non-avian dinosaurs and modern birds, according to you?
In the first place, that concept is so incredibly STUPID anyone who would propose that it be included in a textbook should be stripped of all academic degrees and sent to drive a refuse truck in Chicago. The idea that any animal would DE-VOLVE into an animal that was smaller and less fit to survive is the antithesis of the driving force of evolution theory in the first place. Secondly, there should be millions of fossils that share a dminishing likeness to one and an increasing likeness to the other. There aren't. Third, no fossil can ever be proven to have reproduced. Just because something was born, lived and died was no promise that it produced anythingl let alone anything other than its own kind.
