• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Why do you worship famous people?

There seems to be almost no popular culture figure today who doesn't do such.
That is what makes them human like the rest of us, where only their talents need be appreciated. That would explain why so many of them with opinions would be better off sticking to their day jobs.

I mean, first they leave you, normal people, to pursue a goal and then when they`re finally good enough you can never even talk to them if you don`t have gotten famous yourself from a certain skill, of course they miss out on something not being around you anymore, that`s not the point, but why do you look so up to them when they just left you to sit alone in society?

People enjoy having friends who respect them. If that's the case, they never stop talking to you.
No matter what happens to them or to you.

I don't. I admire some of them for their talent but their ideas....very bad. They should stick to acting. I don't need them to tell me what I should think. I have gotten up and walked out of shows because of it.

I wondered if the OP was literal. The one thing that stands out is betrayal. If a person thinks you’d sell them out they’ll end the connection. The other is greed.

I also reject the premise. I do not worship famous people. But there are some I admire.
Tana Umaga for one. Famous Rugby player. Winner of the Pierre de Coubertin medal - Wikipedia

He also was here in the States and was on the same flight from the U.S. championships to Los Angeles as one of my teammates and closest friends. Second Division here in the U.S. If the premise of the OP was true less than the dirt under Tana's feet. Actually they were in hte same row and talked for the entire flight.

I grew up in Los Angeles. That means I have met a few people in TV and Movies. None fit the bill of the OP.

I've met several Olympic swimmers. Nope, not one who fits the bill. All friendly.

Jan Romary the first woman to carry the U.S. flag in the Olympic Games in 1968 also does not fit the claim. First female 6 time olympian! Yet she taught fencing at the summer camp I went to.

Janice Romary - Wikipedia

I'll end with one other I admire. Adam Gilchrist. An Aussie wicket keeper and one of teh best of all time. But that is not what I admire him for. It is that in a full international test match when he was out, but called safe he simply walked off ending his at bat. Perhaps few Americans have heard of him, but he is quite famous elsewhere.

It seems like everyone these days is worshipping George Floyd as some sort of martyr saint for the BLM cause.

There's quite a big gap between believing someone shouldn't have been killed and worshipping them.

It's been like a year since George Floyd, a drug addict who was convicted of armed burglary, died. Yet the beatification of him still goes on by BLM movement. It never seems to end. You haven't noticed?

I think you're overstating the issue.

I'm not exaggerating. BLM has lavishly beatified George Floyd because he died at the hands of a white cop.

I can't say that I've ever worshipped any famous people. Then again, I haven't worshipped any infamous people, either. So, I guess I'm good to go !!! :dontcare:

I have friends who are fairly well known in a few fields including entertainment and professional sports. Can't say I "worship" any of them. Enjoy hanging out with them? Yup. Glad they're my friends? Yup! Worship them? Not a chance...not to mention that they'd laugh in my face if I said that. Some of them have done some really cool things, others have written best selling books. I admire their talents, occasionally have a twinge of envy, but that's as far as it goes.
