only God can fully satisfy you.

We shouldn't ever feel totally content on earth as long as we know our home is in heaven. We are meant to always feel a little out of place, discontent and uncomfortable here because we are homesick for our true home, the place we are predestined to live eternally, heaven! So rejoice in that! :) Our lives on earth are but a mist that appears for a while then passes away. Look towards the eternal and seek God's face.

God bless

The Book of Ecclesiastes deals with this subject. It was written by King Solomon, who after experiencing life to the fullest opens the book up with his conclusion of life by saying "All is vanity and vexation of spirit". He had reached the pinnacle of life's knowledge, pleasures, and riches, only to find himself empty.

At the end of the book, he finally comes to the conclusion of life, and its purpose, that being to "Fear God, keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man."

Ecclesiastes was written after solomons fall..and its no wonder life was all vain, when you don't have fellowship with God..he sums all his misery in the end of the book by saying if we fear God and keep his commandments..man finds purpose in life..

Amen Beauty! I totally agree & in fact, I teach my girls that we each have a "God-shaped" void inside us that cannot be filled by drugs, alcohol, food, shopping, money, power, etc... (pick any addiction)

Praise God that He is able & will fill that void for each one of us. :)

I think we sometimes need to get out of the house more. I don't have an absolute answer, that's how God plans things for us, I just have to make the most of what I've got and rejoice in that. And the most important thing is follow God and his word.
Thanks for all your input everyone, I'm sure it will help someone! Thanks. :)

"Look around you, what do you really have here? whatever it is, be grateful for it."

This is an interesting and poignant subject that I have seen resurface again and again in almost every concern relating to people's lives. I have dubbed it "the tragedy of the human soul" - to want that which we cannot have and yet still long for it long after we realize the impossibility of the pursuit.

I believe that this nature in us goes back to the Fall and the separation from God. We must toil in life to earn our food and drink and even then we may not achieve all that we desire. All that is left is to keep God's commandments, as Solomon said. "There is nothing left for people to do but to eat, drink, and take pleasure in their work, for that is their sole purpose".

In a more specific sense, I think that our society can brainwash a lot of us into a false state of sentimentality when we watch too many popular movies where the guy gets the girl in the end. Be wary of desires which you create in yourself that would not have arrisen otherwise. In Song of Songs it is written "Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires". Too many of us, I think, watch romance comedies and get to thinking about how our lives could turn out that way, and when they don't we become sad to no purpose.

If instead we have faith (the 'someday') and busy ourselves with other activities, we can find fulfillment in other things while we wait for the emptinesses in our lives to come under the opportunities provided by the fulfilling Spirit.

Even as we try so hard, we must remember to enjoy the ride - in happiness and in sadness - in bitterness and in joy - in longing and in contentment - it is all a part of Life.

Read my signature , the contentment one. I am sure we have all struggled with no satisfaction. Or chasing temporary highs, as the song says.
Learn to love what you have, apparently it is possible because Paul said it was possible. (in the Bible)
Peace
