Why do you believe in God?
Why do I believe in God? Because there was nothing I did to fathom up the story, He did all the convincing I needed. I was basically agnostic in college, and I took a chance and prayed to this God I never knew before. He revealed His truth to me thru the reading of the Scriptures. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. God is why I believe in God.
I cannot tell you why you should believe in God or what you need to do. That's really between and, . . . , well, God.
I believe in God because I reached a point in my life where the way I was living wasn't working for me anymore. I became depressed, angry, and violent, and I had come to rely on alcohol for anything resembling sanity. I reached a point where even drinking didn't really make me happy. I ended up going into treatment and began attending AA meetings. There, the sticking point for me was that they said to stay sober, I would eventually have to believe in God. I fought this, and tried to work the steps the best I could without God and eventually became depressed, angry, violent, and ultimately drunk. When I came back with my tail between my legs, I was told that I would have to be willing to do whatever it takes. This made me think a lot about the God stuff, and I found myself calling out to something, whatever my conception of God was at that time, "I don't know if I believe in you, but I am willing to, if you can help." I believe now, because I believe that that prayer was answered. I have been sober now for 6 and 1/2 years. And, even though I still struggle sometimes with depression, I have found that my thoughts and feelings have improved along with my spiritual condition.
