Why do you believe in the evolution theory?

Nice rant.

Do you have another one, tailored for those that accept evolutionary theory, but are Christians?

The amusing thing is, amongst all the varied theories and foundations of the sciences, religious fundamentalists could not really have chosen much worse than evolution, in terms of picking one to refuse to accept.

Imagine if, instead of evolution, they chose to disbelieve.. say... the theory of gravity. Those of us on science's side would be in big trouble. Why doesn't gravity sit with quantum theory? they might ask. We don't know. Is there a particle - a graviton - and if so, where is it? Dunno. Why is gravity such a weak force? No idea. We would really struggle.

But no, instead of targeting a topic we're unsure about, they target evolution by natural selection. A theory which we understand so well, and for which we have mountains of supporting evidence. We've studied the fossil record in great detail. We've studied ERVs, and DNA, and we've sequenced the genome. We've proven it to be true beyond any reasonable doubt, and yet it's the theory that gets doubted the most.

Please show us the flaws of the theory of evolution.

In science we don't prove, we formulate theories based on the preponderance of the evidence and then test their predictions. Evolution has so far tested positive.

I accept the theory of evolution as the best scientific explanation for the diversity and distribution of life on earth because it works and has never been falsified.

The problem is that the theory of evolution goes against stories in their book of myths. When one's personal beliefs are threatened some people can go to huge lengths to justify their beliefs.

What a nasty little piece of work you are.. and you witness soooo well for Jesus, too!

Slander, liable, false accusations, insults, falsehoods, made-up fantasies, and psychological projection, all rolled up into one hateful diatribe.

May God be with you too!

True, but I would point out that the majority of people who hold basically the same beliefs do not think that evolution threatens them. It's what motivates the minority to perform such mental gymnastics to support specific points of their dogma which interests me. And often amazes and horrifies me too.

Fundamentalists have basically two choices:

Admit their beliefs are conflicted with massive evidence, or, dig in with denial, confirmation bias and selective reasoning.

Not difficult to tell which path most take.

There is the choice that billions of christians have made through the years. When the creation shows that your interpretation of the Bible is wrong, you change your interpretation of the Bible. Problems tend to arise when people turn their own interpretations of the Bible into their religion.

I agree, but you will hear time and again that those people are not "true Christians". Not so much on this site since one Christian calling someone else not a "true Christian" will get that poster in a heap of trouble. But on sites where that talk is allowed I see it quite often, and in the real world too. You will see the accusation that only Christians in name only accept the theory of evolution, even though that would be most Christians in the world.

I don't know about NT scholars, but this certainly happens in seminaries -- lots of people find their faith shaken to pieces by what they learn. Some reassemble it in a new way and some lose it entirely.

So you approve of deliberate misrepresentation of science? I've go news for you. Deliberate misrepresentation is not criticism. It is dishonesty.

I've important-er news. Dishonesty is still not criminal behavior.
And then you have to prove both the claim & the intent of the person in court
to avoid an actual crime of libel or slander filed against you.

True. However, your God doesn't like it much and He doesn't require proof of intent, according the the legends I've read.

Oh, he is very forgiving. Forum posters could learn a thing or two from God.
It's been said that he forgives all your sins...somewhere in that book.

Well all, but the unforgivable sin.
