They were not commandments, they were laws and they were for the Israelite's, not the Christians.
I don't expect it will, as certain things are universal. The basic theme and teaching of the Bible will never change.
And how does Collins reconcile his beliefs with science, and you cannot?
As a complete aside, I'll just say I'm delighted Francis Collins has managed to reconcile his beliefs with science, because if the Human Genome Project didn't exist, my daughter's future would look bleak indeed. My own would not be so great, come to think of it.
booko said:Honey, I don't know what Bible you read, but mine has the Ten Commandments right there in the Torah, and Christians seem to think they are still very much in force. For them. Often for everyone else too.

The basic theme and teaching of the Bible will never change.
That would be:
God created man to worship and fellowship with Him
Man was given free will
Man sinned
God sent His Son to provide salvation from our sin
Jesus lived a sinless life and died for my sin, defeated death and rose from the dead.
If I believe in Him, I will be seen as sinless and spend eternity with God after my life on earth is done.
That is the basic theme of the Bible. Right from the start until the end.
You can go into some pretty deep theology and discussions. However, this is what it boils down to. The gospel is presented through both the old and new testaments.
They were not written in the stone tablet with God's own finger as the ten "commandments" were.
Can you give a reason why anyone would believe that?
Am I allowed to ask this? if not or it offends anyone then please don't answer.
This tells me that the Christian God is a product of men, they even gave their God human fingers.
Which theme are you referring to?
"Christian atheism is a theological position in which the belief in the God of Christianity is rejected or absent but the moral teachings of Jesus are followed."
Christian atheism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"The apostle Paul quotes a pantheist poem about Zeus in Acts 17:28, turning it into a panentheist statement about their "unknown God" when he quotes, "'In him we live and move and have our being' as some of your poets have said."
Panentheism is also a feature of some later Christian thought, particularly in mystical Orthodox Christianity, Catholic philosophy, and process theology. In order to avoid confusion with pantheism some panentheists now use the doublet "unitheism.""

Then we have Francis Collins, evangelical Christian, and American physician-geneticist:
"Collins uncritically accepts and summarizes the standard big bang story (pp. 71–78),7 then discusses the Anthropic Principle"
Harmony and discord: A review of Francis Collins' book The Language of God
"As someone who's had the privilege of leading the human genome project, I've had the opportunity to study our own DNA instruction book at a level of detail that was never really possible before.
It's also now been possible to compare our DNA with that of many other species. The evidence supporting the idea that all living things are descended from a common ancestor is truly overwhelming.
I would not necessarily wish that to be so, as a Bible-believing Christian. But it is so. It does not serve faith well to try to deny that."

There there is you saying that most of mainstream science has to be wrong for your beliefs to be right.
I am glad I am only a spectator in all of this.
And, according to you, most of the mainstream scientific theories have to be wrong for your beliefs to be true.Originally Posted by JacksBratt The basic theme and teaching of the Bible will never change.

"Even if it wasn't right in the past, it could be right in the future."
Got a date for this, Mr. Camping? Or is it always going to be just a ways off into the future? In fact, a lot of things predicted could not happen until technology advanced enough.
Case in point, the "witnesses" that are going stand in the street and rebuke the sinners in the tribulation are going to, eventually, be killed and their bodies will lie in the streets for three days. Then, they will come back to life and ascend to heaven.
The whole world will watch this at the same time. This was not possible until satellite communication was developed and now, the internet. This was not possible until technology advanced enough.
This tells me that the Christian God is a product of men, they even gave their God human fingers.
Thought you had some that covered God?Do you know what math is?

Date setting is forbidden.
Matthew 24:36 "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. Mark 13:32 is an exact parallel.
Matthew 24:42 "Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.
Matthew 24:44 "For this reason you be ready too; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.
Acts 1:7 He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority;
1 Thessalonians 5:1-2 Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.
