• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why do you believe in the evolution theory? (2)

You could compare all the light from all the stars and sun in the universe to a gleam in a mouse's eye from a candle in the far part of a big room if you like. Take that and multiply it by a trillion universe all with far greater light and scope, and you may start to get the idea.

Not a conscious choice. As you deleted from your previous response, answer me this: Can you consciously flip back and forth between those two options? Can you believe, and then choose not to, and then switch back, consciously? no?

You could ask your doctor, but the best one to ask is the one closest to you.

Only those who actually make a determined study of the various religions, might be able to have a proper understanding of what sort of God is the God of the Bible.
By "proper understanding", do you mean "starting with the conclusion that the God of the Bible is real"?
This one is very cold, but who knows maybe his heart will melt under the warmth of the rays coming from some far off distant sun. ;)
The energy from a distance sun would be objectively measurable. Nothing yet on gods.

No. I was thoroughly skeptical. Probably the best way to go at it -- you know as bhmste says 'honestly'

I can see that as with AV, metaphor is lost on you. ^_^

There are 10 kinds of people in the world. Those who know binary numbers, and those who do not.

There are 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand ternary, those who don't, and those who mistake it for binary.

Artemis97 I was wondering if you were going to answer my post to you?

I don't know which post you addressed to me or what it was regarding. I dash on and off of here mainly from my phone when I'm stuck in traffic, and rarely read a thread all the way through or with meticulous attention. This forum has to take a very low priority in my life. I only found this one because I did a search of my user name to see if there are any posts I should tend to, but this is the only post of yours showing up in the first page of results.

While people are engaging in internet debates about evolution, I'm actually finishing a paper relating to evolution that is due on Monday. It takes precedence. This thread has already dismayed the frick out of me so going back through it isn't something appealing but I will when I can. I'm not promising that I'll write a response to your previous post, but if I feel inclined to after I read it, I will.

Or you. Can you believe, and then choose not to, and then switch back, consciously?

Do you regard me as trustworthy as your doctor, or someone who is very close to you? I am shocked!

I'm not surprised. Threads here have too many cross currents, anyone without proper internet connection and computer is bound to drown in it. ^_^
When I was on my Android, I couldn't manage this too -- it make dialogue almost impossible. Plus all the one finger two finger typing is a colossal undertaking.

If there were no fairies, how then would the garden grow?

"They are believed to help to guide the operation of the processes of nature such as the process of evolution and the growth of plants."

Fairy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

and it took a little W.O.E. to help you let go, who knows what you might know, if you just let it all go_______________________

See you tomorrow.

Science is supposed to be changing. That's how it works.

I totally agree.

God's Word apparently changes too, or Christians would be following 613 commandments in the Torah, and they claim they don't have to.

They were not commandments, they were laws and they were for the Israelite's, not the Christians.

I don't particularly have a problem with that, but to claim what God tells us never changes is to ignore the contents of the Bible, and that I do have a problem with.

The basic theme and teaching of the Bible will never change.

Maybe you did. I stopped reading at the point where you proffered opinion as truth.

If you read more things thoroughly you may have your belief changed for you. If you stop reading as soon as you read something that disagrees with your opinion you will not read very many things to their conclusion.

Imagine if everyone only read documents and charts and literature and reviews on subjects up until they made a comment that was contrary to the readers view.

Talk about a self-righteous world and a stagnant one.

Which theme are you referring to?

"Christian atheism is a theological position in which the belief in the God of Christianity is rejected or absent but the moral teachings of Jesus are followed."

Christian atheism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The apostle Paul quotes a pantheist poem about Zeus in Acts 17:28, turning it into a panentheist statement about their "unknown God" when he quotes, "'In him we live and move and have our being' as some of your poets have said."

Panentheism is also a feature of some later Christian thought, particularly in mystical Orthodox Christianity, Catholic philosophy, and process theology. In order to avoid confusion with pantheism some panentheists now use the doublet "unitheism.""

Panentheism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Then we have Francis Collins, evangelical Christian, and American physician-geneticist:

"Collins uncritically accepts and summarizes the standard big bang story (pp. 71–78),7 then discusses the Anthropic Principle"

Harmony and discord: A review of Francis Collins' book The Language of God

"As someone who's had the privilege of leading the human genome project, I've had the opportunity to study our own DNA instruction book at a level of detail that was never really possible before.

It's also now been possible to compare our DNA with that of many other species. The evidence supporting the idea that all living things are descended from a common ancestor is truly overwhelming.

I would not necessarily wish that to be so, as a Bible-believing Christian. But it is so. It does not serve faith well to try to deny that."

Scientist Francis Collins on evolution science faith religion genome gene language of God - Beliefnet.com

There there is you saying that most of mainstream science has to be wrong for your beliefs to be right.

I am glad I am only a spectator in all of this.

How do *you* measure up there? Are you open to the idea that gods, like that of the Bible, may simply be products of the human imagination, simply characters in books? It would explain why you are unable to provide any evidence otherwise.

And how does Collins reconcile his beliefs with science, and you cannot?
