Why do YE Creationists insist on a simplistic literal reading of the bible?

That's 100% true.

It's like tricksters who starts by telling you that you're smart and no one can fool you, they then proceed to convince you that it would be a good idea to give them your money, some can even get you to think it was all your own idea.
All people are gullable some are just more gullable than others.

This is the reason so many christians dig in their heels when presented with logic that goes against a tightly held belief. If someone else is telling them, they will likely deny and assemble psychological defense mechanisms to protect their belief. It is only when they have the opportunity to think clearly on their own and have it be their idea, that they accept a reality that goes against a previously held belief.

I shall rephrase then. You are right. God is my radar. This includes His Word.

His Word is Jesus. His word is (allegedly) the Bible.

Fret not; we see that mistake around here all the time.

No, I'm correcting your theology. Wouldn't want you worshiping the Bible instead of the Logos -- that would be idolatrous.

You're welcome.

Perhaps I was unclear. Do you reject the Bible as God-inspired then?

You can heap evidence and logic on them forever and they will reject until it is their idea to go a certain direction.
We call that "repenting."

And that is the difference between us. The Bible isn't on your radar. The Bible IS my radar.

I was referring to its impact on science. I do think there is some wisdom to be had from the bible, but not any when it comes to understanding the physical universe.

One of my favorites ....
It's interesting that Charles Manson interpreted the Beatle's songs to fit his eschatology and commit his atrocities.

When asked about the song Revolution, where the Beatles say, "Don't you know that you can count me out," he pointed out that, on their White Album, it goes, "Don't you know that you can out me out/in."

I had the White Album at the time; and sure enough, as soon as they say "out," they say "in" so fast it's almost indistinguishable.

I wouldn't want to speculate as to what goes through Charles's head.

Maybe .. but the official lyrics say "out."

Proselytizing does not work on the religious, the only thing that can change a believers mind is the believer.

Hmmm ... interesting ...

Beatles trivia: the reason behind the out/in line was Lennon's indecision about whether violence was ever justified in order to change society. At the time he hadn't made his mind up so kept changing the line. Later, as you probably know, he came down firmly on the non-violent side with his vaguely silly but well meaning peace campaign of bed-ins and bag-ins and what have you.

As for Manson...he also thought the songs Helter Skelter and Piggies were exhortations to murder, so he was pretty much off his chump.

Ignoring, for a moment, the issues of atheists who have Christian icons for some reason, I'd have to say that many of the atheist posters often do just as much to drive people away from evolution and science as the creationists, because in threads like these, there will obviously be some atheists/non-theists arguing on the behalf of evolution. Nothing wrong with that, but then the discussion drifts off to and changes from creationism vs. evolution to Christianity/religion vs. atheism, and you'll get the same atheists talking about how religion and Christianity are evil or wrong or whatever, which will again give people the false idea that accepting evolution leads to atheism.

We call that "freewill."

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Neatly placed on your radar by someone else and done in such a way that you believe it was placed there by you.

You can discount the compass by which I live my life if you wish. I find it a bit interesting that people who hold little stock in religion enjoy talking about it so much

Accepting evolution as taught requires total rejection of many parts of the Bible, including creation, the destruction and reconstruction of life, and the Fourth Commandment. I don't seen any scenario by which such important components could be false and the remainder of the Scriptures be true. If so, there are hundreds of other miracles which cannot happen in a purely natural world, so those must be false as well. Of course, we all know that the dead cannot return to life after three days, so there goes that "myth."

Maybe believing in evolution doesn't require atheism, but it requires a total rejection of most of the Bible. It also requires you to believe that things like origination of life, origination of matter, and the fact that there is no mechanism for the magical acquisition of genetic information do not matter and are not a part of science.

Comparatively speaking, Marvel comics and evolutionary biologists make exactly the same claims, only Stan Lee never tried to claim his work was factual.
