ThaiDuykhang said:Wrong. Papal infallibility means a pope can't teach wrong. don't you think B16 is still teaching Christmas is Jesus' birthday? you can't find a date in the Bible however it's passed down orally from generation to generation until it's written down --- Dec 25. Because of Papal Infallibility, orthodox Catholics believe it is right.
gluadys said:I don't know that he is teaching that Dec. 25 is Jesus' birth day. I know he will say that Dec. 25 is the day that the Church celebrates Jesus' birth day. I don't know that the latter implies the former. Especially as we have been through a few calendar changes in the last couple of millennia and Dec. 25 today does not fall on the same day of the year as it used to in former calendars.
That is why the Eastern Orthodox celebrate Christmas on a different day than Western Christians. The day we call January 6 is December 25 on their calendar. But obviously Jesus could not have been born on both days.
They push for a constitutional agenda, not a moral one. John Kerry has, in the past, stated that his personal beliefs do not include allowing abortion, but that doesn't mean that he will restrict a constitutionally-established freedom for others just because of his religious convictions. I'm a Christian, and I believe it is a sin for someone to worship a false idol, but that doesn't mean that I would ever consider attempting to restrict people's right to worship whomever they please.ThaiDuykhang said:JK and PM all push for anti-Catholic (and anti-Christian too) agendas? Do I need to explain further?
I celebrate my birthday on the day I was born. Do you have an argument?ThaiDuykhang said:Do you celebrity your birthday not on the actual the date you're actually born. you can say "I'll celebrate my birthday a day later for once, because I'm busy on my birthday." but do you say "I'll always celebrate my birthday 3 months later because it's the day I feel lucky"?

So stop trying to damn people who you obviously know very little about. It's not very becoming.

OK. then why do you celebrate Jesus' birthday on a day you willing know it's not His birthday?
ThaiDuykhang said:JK said he oppose abortion and publicly pushes for abortion. what kind of hypocrisy it is? I mean from either side of the abortion issue, who can say JK isn't a hypocrite?
The Lady Kate said:Because we don't know when his birthday actually was... it's not like Joseph and Mary had a Calendar hanging in the manger.
The Lady Kate said:People on both sides who are smart enough to realize that Kerry doesn't want his personal beliefs made into laws.
ThaiDuykhang said:Do Joseph and Mary need a calender in the manger to know date? when you were born, was there a calender in the operation room?
Can a clock or a calender tell you what day it is ? if the clock has a build-in calender, why not directly answer "yes"?The Lady Kate said:As a matter of fact, there was... and an accurate clock.
How many people in ancient nomadic societies do you think had an accurate graps of what day of the month it was? Do you think it was all that important?

You're accusing Joseph, Mary and wise men there're idiots.
Even if their system of keeping time is different, they still have some way to record what day of the year it was, as God has defined what a years is.
You don't think they're stupid enough to mistake March or April for December right? (forget who wrote Jesus' birthday was in March or April)

Eastern Orthodox celebrate Christmas another day. but they still believe it's the day Jesus actually born.
Does your daughter tells everyone her birthday is a week ahead the actual date? and you said "used to celebrate" which means it is temporal.gluadys said:There are a number of people who celebrate their birthday on a day other than their birth day for various reasons. My daughter used to celebrate her birthday a week ahead of time, before school closed, because if she waited until her birth day, all her friends would be away at camp or the cottage or on vacation and no one could come to her party.
1. People always believe what they believe is true.gluadys said:I am not questioning what people believe. People believe a lot of things that are not necessarily true. It is a historical fact that the church did not celebrate Christmas at all for a couple of centuries and when the decision was made to celebrate the birth as well as the death and resurrection of Christ, the church decided to do so on December 25. End of story.
ThaiDuykhang said:1. People always believe what they believe is true.
2. Are you from an organized Church? Does your church teach Christmas is the birthday of Christ? End of story.
Catholics accuse Protestants of having theology errors. why do you believe in Protestantism? because you think Protestantism is right. Protestants accuse Catholics of having theology errors. why do I believe in Catholicism? because I think Catholicism is right. If you ask an outsider, for example an atheist, which is right, he will tell you both are wrong. The Lady Kate said:What does belief have to do with fact? No matter how many people believe something true, if it's not, it's not. End of story.
we celebrate the birthday of Christ. The Lady Kate said:As a matter of fact, it doesn't. Christmas is the day we celebrate the Birth of Christ.

artybloke said:None of the beliefs of Catholicism or Protestantism are to do with Facts. Facts are things and events that can be observed using scientific observation. Nothing about theology can be observed using scientific observation.
Theology has to do with Truth. Truth is only something that can be discerned by revelation; and you either believe that revelation is possible and that you've recieved it, or you don't. Truth cannot be discerned by scientific observation.
Including the Truth that God exists. Any god you could find by scientific observation would be a part of the creation, not the Creator, hence would be an idol.
