• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why do some believe?

Madaz, have you ever seriously thought through your signature?

A theist only has to believe in one God to be 100% theist; we don't have to believe in them all. I mention this because whenever I see this or similar quotes it seems to show the one using it in a bad light, as if they haven't quite grasped the facts or understood what "theist" means.

The best that can be said is that we're "99.9% other-god-rejectors", or better still, don't bother.

Rather than nitpick at the messenger I would think it more prudent to express your thoughts to the originator.

Personally I don't see it as "bad light" rather I see it as a mischievous play on words.

However if you do not believe in certain gods then you are atheistic towards them. That doesn't mean you are atheist.

I refresh my signature often, some quotes are interesting, some probably not so.

Disclaimer-The quotes in my signature do not necessarily reflect my own thoughts and ideas.

Is this difficult? You don't believe in God, study science, discover you are doing nothing other than examining God, and begin pursuing that line of thought to realize it is true.

Obviously it is difficult...

Not nitpicking, a genuine comment on an extremely badly thought out quote. And unfortunately your response is still wrong - I'm not atheistic towards some gods and not others (or one specifically), because by definition an atheist believes in NO gods. I may be a-Zues, but in NO sense an atheist.

Interesting disclaimer. I tend to have things in my sig with which I agree. Can't think why anyone would post something they didn't believe. :)

People say some funny things, if I see it, I 'll grab it, its not about belief.

Anyway I don't think it is as "badly thought out" as say...

Very true. I started studying how lightning is formed, and now I believe strongly in the existence of Zeus.

Hallelujah!

In all seriousness, you can not get from scientific inquiry to a God. It simply doesn't work
