Why do so many ex-Mormons hang around here on this forum?

I would guess that it has something to do with Mormons who keep returning to this non-Mormon site. Do you think that's a possible reason?

Why did Joseph Smith say the following?

"I then said to my mother, 'I have learned for myself that Presbyterianism is not true.'”

My understanding is that Mormons are welcome as members of this site. From the rules:
"Those who do not adhere to the Statement of Faith are welcome as members and participants in discussions"

I agree that where there are discussions concerning Mormonism, that there will likely be both Mormons and ex-Mormons participating (as well as those who have never been Mormon).

Someone needs to set you unorthodox heretics straight. :D J/k. At times I get the impression that some folks religion consists entirely of their attacks on other religions. That's all there is to it. How wrong everyone else is. I'm high priest of the "Mormons are wrong" religion. Another big religion on CF is the "Muslims are wrong" religion. People whose every post consists of attacks on Islam or Mormonism or Jehovah's Witness or Masons or some other boogie man.

A most curious reason to suggest—the egg preceding the chicken! I would guess that it has something to do with some on this site who present LDS beliefs in a less-than-accurate manner. After all, that is precisely what brought me to CF, and why I am still here after two years. Definitely the chicken preceding the egg!

To be fair... It's true this isn't a Mormon site but it's also not a Catholic , Baptist, etc.. site. It's simply a "generic" Christian site. The rule makers here tend to separate Christians into major categories of the orthodox and the unorthodox. The first group is composed of those who accept the Nicene creed and the later are those who reject it. They set up places for the "unorthodox" persons to post too so I don't see them as wanting to remove them all together.

One wonders at the audacity of certain persons to call information that is accurate inaccurate.

These words are attributed by LDS to Joseph Smith:

18 My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)—and which I should join.

19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.”

Joseph Smith—History 1Â[bless and do not curse]

There are only two churches, one of the Lamb of God and one of the devil, 1 Nephi 14:10

Contend against no church, save it be the church of the devil, Doctrine & Covenants 18:20

Well, we were all in great trouble; and we asked Joseph[Smith] how it was that he had received a revelation from the Lord and the brethren had utterly failed in their undertaking. Joseph did not know how it was, so he enquired of the Lord about it, and behold the following revelation came through the stone: "Some revelations are of God: some revelations are of man; and some revelations are of the devil."
B. H. Roberts, A Comprehensive History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6 vols. (Salt Lake City: Deseret News Press, 1930), Vol. 1

I also believe in correcting inaccurate information about Mormonism, whether the source of that information is from an LDS member of CF or a non-LDS member of CF.
