  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why do people try to obey the law when it's not possible

Paul says he was blameless according to the Law. So it must be possible to keep, nu?

What Paul was saying is not that Christ kept the law but rather that the law had nothing to point out as sin in Christ. The simplest way I can explain it is this If there is a 70 MPH speed limit and you never break the speed limit, the law has no relevance to you because you are not guilty of transgression/sin against the law. The law was not made for the man who by faith keeps the law in His heart. The law was given to point out our sins. It had nothing to accuse Christ of in His heart. There by He was above the law.

Gal.2:16, know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.

Jesus came through the lintage of Abraham;

Abraham, the founding father of the Jewish nation of Israel, was a man of great faith and obedience to the will of God. His name in Hebrew means "father of a multitude." Originally called Abram, or "exalted father," the Lord changed his name to Abraham as a symbol of the covenant promise to multiply his descendants into a great nation that God would call his own; He is known as faithful Abraham; He was justified by faith; you can't separate Jesus from His ancestors; Jesus is my Lord and Savior; I serve Him; The curse was added by evil Rabbis; Jesus became those curses; to free us;
Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us; for it is written; Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree; that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Yes, I understand that too.

Paul spells this all out in his magnificent book of Romans!

James chapter 2 verses 14-26
What good is it my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food If one of you says to him, Go I wish you well; keep warm and will fed, but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action is dead
But someone will say, You have faith; I have deeds.
Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that and shudder.
You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. And the scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called God's friend. You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.
In the same way, was not eve Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

The action here is better rendered obedience.

Faith without obedience is dead.

Obedience is the standard of righteousness.

Obedience is the standard of Faith.

Obedience is the standard of Love.

The works is not the works of the law, but the obedience of faith.

Faith comes by God speaking to you.

If God tells Abraham to "Get out of your country, From your family And from your father's house, To a land that I will show you. Genesis 12:1

Now Abraham has faith to do what God tells him to do, but if Abraham doesn't actually obey what he has heard God tell him, his faith is dead.

Faith without the working of obedience is dead.

This is how you obey God, and this is how you honor God.
Matthew chapter 25 verses 31-46
When the Son of Man comes" in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. he will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then the King will say to those on his right, Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and got visit you? The King will reply, I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me. Then he will say to those on his left, Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me. They also will answer, Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you? He will reply, I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me. Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.

So, are we to believe that our final judgment/ destination is based on works?

How we treated those who Jesus calls His "brethren?"

Is that the New Testament doctrine salvation by grace?

Faith without works is dead.

We show our Love for God, by obeying Him.

Obedience is the standard of righteousness.

Obedience ids the standard of faith.

Obedience is the standard of Love.

What do we obey God in, to show our Love for Him?

Answer: Love our neighbor.

How do we show our love for our neighbor?

14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled," but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. James 2:14-18

I can do more than just post scripture!

I can explain what James says.

We all know the command to "love your neighbor" but you need to actually practice it instead of just repeat the command, lol! ;)

James is describing what "acts" of faith should look like.

18 Suppose someone disagrees and says, “It is possible to have faith without doing kind deeds.”
I would answer, “Prove that you have faith without doing kind deeds, and I will prove that I have faith by doing them.” Jms. 2:18 CEV

Galatians 5:18
But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

Romans 8:8
So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Yes, I agree.

Jesus explained the difference of being in the flesh and hopefully led by the Spirit, being in the spirit man in John 3: (NKJV)
The New Birth

3 There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”
3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
9 Nicodemus answered and said to Him, “How can these things be?”
10 Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? 11 Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness. 12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.[a] 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but[b] have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

I have compiled hundreds of God's Laws from the Bible and none of them are difficult to follow. It really isn't that hard. People who have a hard time following the Law are usually misinterpreting the Law, or calling things the Law that aren't.

Please post the laws you have taken the time to compile and let's discuss.

My perspective is probably a little different than yours.

Bet you don't keep the law about the Sabbath as recorded in E 20:8-11.
