Why do people still read the King James Version?

After reading a lot of the posts on this thread, I think that my original question has been answered. The KJV only people actually regard that version as the only English true word of God. People will cling to their belief even in the face of irrefutable evidence that all translations are just that: translations. They are not the originals. They differ in so many ways: culture, language, different early manuscript evidence, etc. Personally, I much prefer scholarship, i.e., the years and years of work by experts in their fields to create the best translations possible, instead of clinging to a 400-year-old work created by flawed people. Even though they did the best that they could, there is nothing magic about the KJV, which is why I'm mystified that the KJV only people attribute such sacred status to it. IMHO that's idolatry.

I said it back in post #60 - I use it because I like it.

I've spent quite a few years in a KJVO group, several in fact. I am no longer there, and I now have a multitude of different translations. And two in Greek. No, three. (I'm studying Greek on the side.)

But I still like the Authorized version because I've spent a LOT of time there.

YMMV. But find something you like, for whatever reason you want.

Thank you for not posting any more of this nonsense. BTW, what are your credentials?

Ok this is redundant, I have one simple question : Why?
After all the people who have come to salvation throughout the many years of the history of The King James, what drives you to toss it and berate it?
What good can come from a thread that degrades A Bible?
This subject has been debated here many times,I do not question your being a Christian because you prefer other translations ,so it's my own fault for caring what people say about the King James.
I don't care what you read it's free will,so I'm done.
Thank You and God Bless.
As far as ballistics goes, load a 38 with the same grains of powder as a .357 and see if your cylinder of the 38 can withstand the pressure.
You can load anything you want until it blows up,the OP has 357 as his fourm name I was simply using this as a metaphor.
As far as my qualifications go ,I have given reference from my sources.

Actually, it is mostly the KJVO folks that are saying negative things about "these translations."

I don't think that true in any case, but I wonder if you mean that this is the case with the population as a whole...or just among the posters here on CF?

There has been some strong support for the KJV offered on this thread, and it doesn't seem that it's come from "KJV Only" people.

I do hope that readers who aren't fans of the KJV aren't going to treat any argument that's offered in favor of the KJV with a "Well, that person has to be KJV Only so his thinking must be invalid."

Being that the NASB is known for being the most literal translation of the Alexandrian text line, I guess I could bash people for using the NIV or ESV instead of the NASB.. They are all translations and there are no original autographs. There are some issues with the KJV such as the last 6 verses of Revelations and the Johannine Comma to name a couple, but I still like the KJV and read it sometimes.

I give thanks that we don't have to struggle with ancient languages to read the Holy Bible. We have numerous excellent English translations of the Holy Bible to use. Not one of them is perfect, but we have the Holy Spirit of God to help us when we read His Word. We should pray for that help and depend on it.

Bashing good English translations of the Holy Bible doesn't help anyone. There isn't a single English translation that serves as a standard or the only right translation. We must remember that the Holy Bible wasn't written in English, and we have good translations for just about every language on earth. We can give thanks for this and know that God is using them for His Purpose.
