I was a Christian when I joined hoping for help in reestablishing my faith...didn't work, But...I do like some of the folks I've met here.

Religion is a very interesting topic, regardless of whether or not you believe in it. Also, I for the most part I've only been able to read arguments against God's existence and am yet to read anything that argues effectively for God's existence. I'm sure there are better books out there that I haven't come across, but at this point I'm just trying to listen to whatever Christians are saying. Maybe as a child I should have listened more in church!

+ Discussion/debating is fun, especially with somebody that disagrees with you.
+ You learn new stuff & understand things from the believers' standpoint more, that's fun too.
+ From time to time, you get really funny, silly posts by crazy fundies; though this board is pretty "calm".

I came here to see how misguided the poor sorry believers are.
It is disappointing and scary that so many people are weak of mind and require a brainwashed belief in fictitious beings to make it through life.
It is funny to see how christians think their religion is superior to another.
Surely you can see that christianity, muslim, etc are all the same, and are all for people who don't have the common sense to get through life without blind faith?

I'm just here to spread some knowledge.
I browsed other channels like fark, boing-boing, and even 4chan, but I found that most of the times that religious folk showed up they usually had horrible misconceptions about atheists. I also have a Christian friend, a really bright guy, we have philosophical chats now and then, and even he didn't get some of the basics of non-religious thinking.
Realizing that atheists are a minority, and the majority of folk don't visit our corners, here I am on your lands to answer any questions you may have. Like this one. I'm not here to change your beliefs nor eat your children, just to inform.

Anyway, I have over 2700 posts at richarddawkins.net. It occurred to me during my time over there that, while I was becoming effective in arguing for things like evolution and rational debate and whatnot, I wasn't doing much to understand where believers (well, the ones who aren't trolls) were coming from. I began to understand that reasoned argument and evidence aren't necessarily the most important reason believers had for their faith. I thought I'd come here and try to understand.
And point out any misconceptions about me and my fellow atheists, though I'm sure dew is already doing a bangup job of that.

You should check it out, Lamb. I post there pretty often (though CF has taken more of my time recently.) They need more sophisticated theists over there!
Be warned, however, that just like this forum has rules that restrict the freedoms of posters to say whatever they want, so does RDF. You're not allowed to preach or witness there. Any claim you make has to be substantiated with reason and/or evidence.

I was born an atheist, just like everyone else, was a Christian for 7 years, and then dropped out after re-reading the bible and discovering the bible proves Christianity can not be true. There is literally more evidence for the Flying Spaghetti Monster than there is for the King of the Jews. Thus, I come here to inform everyone to live for today b/c its all we have.
