If interested, here is a link to a website called The Political Compass. It is like a personality test--but political. Don't take it too serious, it is not highly scientific. My wife and I took it and is seems to accurately locate our political instincts. It would be interesting to see other results on this thread (if that's cool with OP).
My results:

I usually get close to the middle/slightly left.

In Canada Blue is Conservative. Red is Liberal...
Which makes sense. But here, somebody in the media (I guess it was) decided not long ago to make Democrats be blue and GOP red, although it makes no sense ideologically, or because of the color of their respective party insignias, or anything else I am aware of.

The only logic I could guess at would be that while blue is the traditional color of conservatism, red is the historic color of you-know-who, and the Democrats wouldn't like that association to be made.

I'd recommend one of the many others that are available online and are more objective. This one defines the test-taker on the way that he wades through a series of biased statements and makes its final judgment on the basis of which ones of those he falls for the most often. That's unique, I think.

Is this where you would place yourself politically? I am curious how accurate people think this survey is.
I think it is close only because I had to read through the bias in the questions.

Agreed, the questions were awkwardly phrased and seemed to be leading. I wonder if that was intentional in order to get a stronger left/right reaction?

It did for me, too.

However, I am thinking that I could just as easily have answered a number of the the questions differently, having recognized that those statements were invalid as they were worded.

How is a person to respond to such wording--agree with it in principle even though the wording explains it incorrectly, or disagree in order to show that you know that the way it was presented was inaccurate?

I doubt that people that read my posts would think I am as close to the center as the political compass rates me.

That test puts me here:

I assume they put me there because of my views on abortion. Skip the abortion question and it's my guess I lean more to the libertarian side.

I was a Republican, but got left behind. Now I'm a purple.

It happens to the best of us. Wouldn't bother me if we did away with both partys. I don't seem to fit anymore. It could just be a personal problem. Who knows

Which reminds me, two tankers collided in mid-Atlantic and sank. One was carrying red paint and the other was carrying blue paint. *drum roll* The survivors were marooned.:D

I’ve don’t like political parties. They promote tribalism. The major parties, (and their evil spawn, political “bases”) have become as factious and divisive as religion, race, ethnicity, and nationality ever were. And maybe more so. Democrats and Republicans both thrive on creating conflict and demonizing each other. Their only interest is power and control. It’s a disgrace. But it’s today’s political reality, and it’s not gonna change anytime soon.

If anything, I’m closest to an old-fashioned northeastern Republican. Socially liberal and fiscally moderate/conservative. When people like Nelson Rockefeller, Jacob Javitz, Olympia Snowe, Bill Weld, and Jim Jeffords were still around. They’re almost an extinct species now. But they’re the folks who really made it the Grand Old Party.

In Canada Blue is Conservative. Red is Liberal, Orange is Socialist and Green is guess who. This is the way the Lord intended --- anything else is an abomination.

That is the way it used to be in the US too. This was 1980.
