• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I was born into a Christian family, and have been surrounded by the Christian faith for my whole life. I've struggled with depression and anxiety all my life as well. It's gotten progressively worse over the past few years, and it leaves me wondering, why? God is supposed to have a perfect plan for my life. He's supposed to love and care for me, so why did he make my brain with the chemical imbalances he possesses. I understand the importance of struggle and being tested, but this is almost like a constant, slow burn in my soul. It's affecting my family, so I feel guilty for something that really isn't my fault, to begin with. I've prayed for some understanding, for a way to get through it, or literally anything to help me through this, but I'm stuck. Its hard to believe in God when I don't feel like I'm being heard or cared for.

Good evening.
Being born in a Christian family and be surrounded by the Christian faith does not automatically give you salvation.
You must be born again.
Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Saviour by faith in Him and Him alone?

God is supposed to have a perfect plan for my life.

God never promised we would never suffer. God never promised us we would be happy all the time. I do know the bible says there will be trials and tribulations, and well thats been my experience in this world. People have this wrong idea that because they are a christian they won't suffer. It's just not true. You will suffer, what you need to try to do is suffer less. But you can't eradicate it. Another thing you need to do is find peace and acceptance over your situation and that takes time and wisdom.

God made nick Vujicic born with no arms or legs. he's a successful businessman, evangelist, husband, and father. he is an inspiration to people who are physically deformed.

God made us for his glory. God is glorified when those who are His overcome whatever struggles they face in life by His power in order to inspire others. your 'mess' can become your message.

think about that..

Depression is very difficult. When I feel depressed I read about Gods Love and also pray a lot. I also go read the book of Job .... compared to Job and what he went through .... my circumstances/depression becomes pretty trivial. It puts things into perspective for me. Also, there are people in the world that don't even have fresh drinking water. Perspective .... perspective .... perspective

It's not my problem(s) that's the problem .... it's my attitude about my problems that is the problem.

Let gratitude be your attitude.

Count your blessings ... no matter how small .... pray the Lord Jesus to help you stand tall.

May you be filled with the Love of the Lord. Amen.

I heard this from a biologist . I’m not sure if it’s correct but he said that ingrained misogyny and abuse of women over centuries had imprinted our genes with a tendency to get depression .

It sounds plausible as misogyny was an acceptable part of Western culture up until the middle of the 20 th century . Some of the responsibility for the second class status of women belongs to religion. To this day some Christian women are told that they have to be submissive. Being a fully functioning adult and being treated like you’re a <Staff Edit> 5 year old is extremely stressful.

i think the biggest mistake you can make is thinking God does not love you because you suffer. (Just imagine Jesus would have done that?) The bible warns us beforehand that we will face trials and temptations and in our spiritual struggle meet times of desolation.

The truth is depression is the pits and God knows that. Living in a fallen world plaques us with all kind of illnesses and deformities that have been caused to come around because of our wrong doings and satan's destructive works.

Depression is an illness of the mind. It causes us to have thoughts that are sparked by hopelessness, despair, sadness, guilt, shame, bitterness and fear and not thoughts that are sparked by love, kindness, gentleness, faith, hope, long suffering and joy. It is because of illness that our thoughts are shaped with negativity but the truth is such thinking can be overcome if we have faith in His love!

At one stage my depressive illness had me rock bottom for nearly 7 years. i, like you do now, also thought God was the cause of my misery and didn't love me. Incredible what kind of lies my depressive mind made up about God and His love over me. Even me thinking that i was created just to suffer and go to hell.

However one night the truth spoke to my heart and i saw that i had been creating my own reality through my thoughts and determinations. i had listened to despair, hopelessness, sadness, regrets, shame and guilt and my fears all my life and let them lie to me about God, myself and my neighbour and so shape me with their misery. The bible told me what you sow you shall harvest, how true had that been in my fallen life?

So i repented of my charges against God and began to reject my depressive thoughts and feelings in favour of the truth of Scripture. Honest brother it was a massive battle that took more than 3 years to produce a new life but Jesus got me out of my pit and convinced me of the power and love of God over me.

However my depressive illness has not healed and till today i fight my depressive thoughts and claim the truth of Scriptures as my reality instead. It works great brother. Suffering can produce good life for i can serve God even when i'm rock bottom. i have learned to pray for other people who are suffering when i suffer and found that an incredible worthwhile experience. For my prayers become passionate for the suffering ones, knowing from first hand experience how bad such can be.

So i advise you to put your faith in God's love and to get His Word into you and let His loving truth guide your heart and your mind. And then you will see for yourself that your depression will not be able to get you in the pit again and that God's love will sustain your through your hard times just as He does for me and many others.

Here have a look at His Word and the power such can have in your life.

Isaiah 61
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.

They will rebuild the ancient ruins
and restore the places long devastated;
they will renew the ruined cities
that have been devastated for generations.
Strangers will shepherd your flocks;
foreigners will work your fields and vineyards.
And you will be called priests of the Lord,
you will be named ministers of our God.
You will feed on the wealth of nations,
and in their riches you will boast.

Instead of your shame
you will receive a double portion,
and instead of disgrace
you will rejoice in your inheritance.
And so you will inherit a double portion in your land,
and everlasting joy will be yours.

Yes, I have, although currently, I'm feeling less sure.
Friend , feelings come and go , but salvation never does if you truly have been redeemed.
I believe a lot of us question God and salvation from time to time due to certain circumstances and situations, but please remember God is always faithful and His Word true.
