I think that link is sad. I think it reduces Jesus to a lifesaver, not a life.
Jesus is God. That is a given. needGod helps those that don't understand this to raise Him from being a life to being Life and the Lifesaver.

I don't encourage anybody to become "christian" (just the fact that there are so many variations of the meaning behind that word makes it pretty useless IMO). I do, however, encourage people to seek God, to seek to be with him - as in finding the meaning and purpose of life, being (re)conciled with our creator.

Okay. Guys. Most of the people here has given a really short reply. Couple of days back, I posted a very lengthy reply involving three posts of why Christ and Christianity makes sense to me in the the true or false thread in non-christian religion room. I have presented it with more of a rational perspective although I must say that the other perspectives that I have considered also makes Christ's claims highly agreeable in every aspect. Since I think that it will be relevant over here also, I am giving the link of that page for anyone who wants to go through my reasons. But beware;) It is a very long reply as you might have already noted in this post that I write lengthy replies. Imagine then what "very long" according to me will mean.:p Here is the link:

A simple answer :)
Because God said we should, not to mention Heaven sounds like a much more enjoyable eternity than hell.
God is our creator, without him we would not exist, We were made to worship him, and given the capabilities to do so.
But we also have a free will to choose, and satan is right there with all the reasons you should not be one of God's children, He wants you to remain his child.
We have all we need, a simple command even a child can understand.
"Ye must be born again"
Sin cannot enter into heaven, and as a servant of sin we are at emnity with God, and unable to enter into eternal life, but are damned to eternal torment.

I'm going to keep this question really simple: Why should we be Christian ?

You will get a lot of different answers to that question: "peace", "fulfilment", "happiness", etc.

Those are things that come later, as a by product of becoming a Christian, but they're not particularly compelling reasons to become a Christian.

After all, Muslims have a purpose. Mormons seem pretty happy. Bhuddists are always telling us they have peace.

As I see it, there are two reasons you should become a Christian:

1. Because you've broken God's laws and that makes you an enemy of His, in danger of facing His wrath on judgement day. It is only by throwing yourself on God's mercy, by virtue of repentence and faith in Christ and His atonement on the cross on your behalf that you can be forgiven, reconciled to God, and made a child of His.

2. Because you're drawn by the unimaginable love that the Father has shown you by sending His son to be a sacrifice in your place.

Dear Analog. You had some really good replies, and I can only repeat. The Bible will tell you, why we are on this Earth, how Adam and Eve blieved a lying Serpent rather than a loving God. Instead of repenting, we moved farther and farther away from God. Because God did not give up on us, because God loves us and we are made in His image, Jesus came to show us God, how God is really. Jesus paid the price which God`s Holy Law demanded, and now we are free to return to our original home with God, our Creator and Heavenly Father. Jesus told us what to do: Love God with all our hearts, all our souls, and all our minds. Also love each other, as we love ourselves. Which also means: treat everybody as we would like to be treated by them; with loving kindness and heartfelt consideration. We repent and become as God wants to be. Jesus is waiting to help and guide us all the way, He is the Way back to God, to eternity with God and our Christian brothers and sisters. I say this humbly and with love, Analog, and send greetings. Emmy, sister in Christ.

Because apart from God I am nothing. Apart from God, i maybe can find some semblance of temporary happiness, but only through Christ can I find joy in the midst of despair. Only by my relationship with Christ is there the peace that passes understanding. Through my relationship with the Lord, I learn what true love is. It is quite different from romance or duty+compassion. I have found that apart from my relationship with Christ, everything truly is meaningless and empty. Only the Lord Jesus Christ can fill my void.

sir, christianity means love, so does (anchient) buddism (the real budest dont pray to budda, for budda never did) islam, and hinduism. any religion which optimizes your capacity for pure love is for you, for many it is islam, second christianity, hinduism and the rest. yet in this present age it is christianity which optimizes the most of men , and that is why

So, I'm the only one out of all the people here claiming to be Christians who believes we should be Christians because Christ is the only way of salvation for sinful man?

Or am I the odd man out because I'm the only one who doesn't believe that we should be Christians because of the various esoteric reasons given by others here?

If you want God to answer your question then you are not alone. It takes permanent faith to believe God exists and as Jesus accepts and lives in you, He would do everything in his power to fight Satan's power to forget Christianity. But he and God don't have the power to make you decide to become a Christian since God has made human in his own image meaning that you are powerful as God in a moral sense. You decide if want to remain non-Christian. No Christian can put a gun to your head if you refuse. :swoon::|

I'm going to keep this question really simple: Why should we be Christian ?

We? or You? or I?

Well, in any cases, you know what, "we" shouldn't. There is not scrap of one good reason to be a "Christian", at least as far as most westerners understand it.

I mean I could say "a Christian is someone that follows Christ" but lets get real, a "Christian" is that person in Church on Sunday acting all holy holy, and then hitting the bar and picking up casual sexual encounters at the bar on Monday, or at the very least, that is what is seems like a Christian can decayed down into.

Tell you what. I can't say to Avoid Hell, that is like saying "If you don't believe in Iggy the Magic Tree Elf, you shall be Deprived Candy Land, and have to Suffer in Eternal Hungry Hungry Hippo"

Which might scare people, but, then again, I really liked the game Hungry Hungry Hippo, but anyway...

Truth is, after you pass all the Starbucks(tm)ads, and sound bites, the real reason should be.. Because it's True.

If it's ain't True, it does not matter what it says.

Sorry for not giving you what you want, or following what others have said, but, hey, that's life.. and I for one.. well.. some days, I have no idea what to call myself.. but I found Truth in Jesus.. Meh. call me what you will.

God Bless
