• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Is anybody reading these anymore? I tried to ask about cutters but never got a response. How does one they if they are a cutter if nobody posted the symptoms or what constitutes being a cutter over other forms of SI. I scratched my arm intentionally hard enough to make it bleed and left cuts. Is that ruled a cutter? If someone gives me a tattoo is that SI or only if I give myself a tattoo with a sharp item like cut a cross or scarification?

Sorry Hun . I'm going through and approving things now...there's been a bit of change-over in the mods recently and I've been away. I'll try to make sure I check every time I'm on from now on :).

In terms of what constitutes a cutter...I don't like using the term 'cutter' because self-harm encompasses more than cutting. I think any sort of harm done to yourself intentionally falls under the 'self-harm' category - not just hurting yourself by cutting.

The mod's here are pretty busy. Just give them time. And if you really think they've forgotten or something, just PM one of them. They are great people, but they have live too, so it's easy to get busy. You know what I mean?

I would say you are self-injuring (SIing). SI isn't about how you injure or how bad. Its about the mind-set behind what your doing. Why are you cutting? j

Hun, I say this with everything in me. STOP NOW!!! Stop while you can. Cutting or any kind of SI is an addictive thing. Eventually its as bad as drugs or drinking. The more you hurt yourself, the harder it will be to stop. Till eventually is seems impossible to stop. Nothing is impossible with God, but stopping before you get in deep will save you a bunch of unnecessary heartache. Try going to a counsellor and talking about why you are cutting.

Let us know how you are doing.

Oh! and I, too, dont think tatoo's are SI. Not unless you do it just for the pain. If you get one because it looks cool then i think its ok. But i also think that past SIers should be careful when it comes to getting one. I think that might lead to temptation (or for some, MORE temptation) That would kinda be like a recovering drunk standing infront of a beer cooler. So we should be careful.

Be strong!!
