It is convenient that the enemies of Jesus are our enemies as well. I am not an expert on biblical interpretation, of course it does not take an expert to see how wrong those very foolish explanations are. To read Matthew 10:34 wirhout reading 33, or 35 or anything else to give it context still does not lend credence to such a foolish explanation. Why are violent religions other than Islam not being slain by this sword, I would say because they have no oil, but that is probably just speculation on my part.
In Matthew 28:19 just before ascending into heaven Jesus gave a last command to his diciples it was Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. That doesn't sound like a command to kill his enemies but to convert them.bring them into the fold and teach them.

Obama just authorised 1500 support troops which should make a difference and there are a very few Americans who have joined the Peshmerga directly in this fight. I suppose everyone needs to follow their own conscience on this. But a Christian with military training may well feel called to join up with the good guys over there.

They are going as trainers, advisers, and Special Forces (such as Air Combat Controllers to direct bombing from the ground) not as combat maneuver units.
The Americans that have directly joined the Peshmerga are fighting and killing ISIS directly. But you are right that the US /UK strategy seems to be to promote the home side to defend itself and the military support is meant to cultivate that local potential not to send troops to fight alongside them.
Not sure what the letter to Iran from Obama has to do with all this as it will not be Iranian troops on the ground either. The Saudis and Turks are both lurking in the background also.

For the record, Western Christians are seemingly the ones not doing much actively, but that is still hyperbole. Overall, many Christians are actively fighting enemies and going through hell to stand for their God. This war is spiritual even if physical stuff is happening. So, things have to be done differently - protesting and staging small scale wars are not the way to go - especially if you want to fight "the power."

The Christians around the world are doing a lot, as prophesied; they are being martyred as prisoners, by starvation and illness, by being put to death, and even by fire. The martyrs in China, for example, don't get much attention for dying for their faith, and huddling in horrible conditions just to avoid the authorities and have fellowship. The majority of Christians around the world take Him very seriously; they are willing to go all the way for Him. A lot is being done.
