Actually, in my opinon it is extremely hard to stick with your standards. I applaude you on staying with yours!!
I just recently made a list (a very long one) of all the qualities I would like a guy to have, then I placed a star by the ones that is a must-have. I dropped my guard before and it ended in heartbreak. I won't be making a mistake like that again.

• Firstly, he must be a Christian.
• Second, Want kids or at least like them.
• Have a sense of humor.
• Be serious when needed.
• Understand my level of sarcasm. (Of course I NEVER use it )
• We have to get along to some degree.
• Be smart. (Book smart is good and common sense is needed since I tend to lack it)
• Friendly
• Can debate me on topics that we do not agree on and not get an overheated head about it.

Those are all very good musts. I share the sense of sarcasm and that last one you mentioned about debate is very important to me as well... I dated a girl once who was furious with me when I said I could see both sides of the gay marriage issue. (She was very strongly for gay marriage and wanted me to be the same way but I am kinda torn between the two sides). She was that way about a lot of issues. It got to the point where I felt like I couldn't bring up anything that was potentially contraversial around her without her going off the deep end.

Well, I'm still fairly new to my church, and it just takes awhile to work into the various groups that naturally gravitate towards eachother. I make a fair bit of effort to meet people and get to know them, but to get to spend time with them outside of church, that takes some doing.

Anyhow, when I was your age, I wasn't interested in getting married. I dated a lot though.

Yeah, I've had some experience with that. I really didn't like it, and I don't want it to happen again.

I'm in Iraq and I don't believe in long distance relationships!

I have been on the move for quite sometime now, I figure in the past 6 years I have been home for a maybe a year of that. I spent four in the Corps and a year and a half of that was spent in Iraq. After the Corps I came home for a short time and tried out college but hated it and got a job to come back out to Iraq. I have been here since October of 07 and plan on being out here until April of 09. I'll probably be looking for a relationship after that though, believe you me. After this is all said and done with I plan on attending Liberty U and finally buckling down and getting that degree everyone speaks so highly of. Don't get me wrong, I have been in relationships in those past 6 years but nothing real serious. I'm a settling down type of guy and look at girls for a long term thing. I don't understand how you can just date someone to date someone. All but one of those girls have been non-Christians (is that the right term?) but the next one I get will be a Christian. So there you have it, wow that was a lot!

But seriously, I'd like to stay single for awhile in order to get a better handle on who I am and what my goals are. I don't want to get side tracked, and because I'm all over the place right now, dating would inevitably sidetrack me. I want to make sure that I have a solid plan of action set up for myself - get degree, get job, become financially independent. That is really important for me, to be independent in that way, and I cannot multi-task or focus on more than one thing at a time so presently dating is on hold.
