Why are you Pentecostal/Charismatic?

I agree Kingdom Scribe. I attend a Church of England service weekly, and it is wonderful as everyone fully believes in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the reality of the Holy Spirit's power.

This is the Church of England we're talking about!

I was saved in All Saints Episcopal Church in West Newbury, Massachusetts, right next door to New Hampshire with the homosexual Bishop! Poor All Saints is surrounded by liberalism, but consistantly describes itself as High Episcopal with evangelical and charismatic leanings! While there is no speaking in tongues there is praying in tongues and a prophetic word (in English) as well as incorporation of exhuberant worship within the Episcopalian liturgy. Best of all worlds, isn't it?

About the only times I'd been to church growing up were for weddings and funerals, and since both scared me, I didn't really want to keep going. But about six years ago, a co-worker and friend invited me to a revival they were having. My wife (who's was raised in the church) went, and I gotta admit, I was intrigued. So we kept going. The last night there, I joined the altar call, and as the evangelist laid his hand on my head and prayed over me, I hit the floor.

When I opened my eyes, I saw everything so much more clearly. Colors were brighter, sounds were clearer. And most importantly, I was convicted of my sinful ways.

Well, I was bound and determined to read the bible. And I did. Started in Genesis I and ended in Revelation. That's when I realized God's promises don't stop, and everything He said is still true, and that includes the Spritual gifts. That's why I'm considered P/C.

I'm curious why you chose to be a member of the Pentecostal/Charismatic denomination. I'm especially interested in hearing from those who were not raised in their denomination, but even comments from those raised Pentecostal/Charismatic are welcome. I recently left the Roman Catholic Church and am in the process of evaluating other local churches, but I figured I could use this forum to see why people like where they are.

Peace.
Why do we have to be categorized AT ALL? We are supposed to be all ONE BODY.

I was pretty much raised with my mom believing in a Charismatic background.

I didn't really fully understand faith and salvation, other than Jesus saves, until I moved back to WV from NC. It was then I began to seek God more passionately, reading my Bible, going to churches that helped me grow (some even tore me down), and all that good stuff.

So finally I got around to just picking up behind her and going with the Godly flow. :D

I attend different churches, but I really like AoG...

Where in WV?

I am Pentecostal/Charismatic because when Jesus walked the earth he was personable. He loved people, ministered to people, healed people, saved people, delivered people, and he just exercised the power of God fully. And I think that (many times) you could replace the word Pentecostal for "He" in that sentence (Pentecostals love people, minister to people, heal people, save people, deliver people, and he just exercises the power of God fully.

We are. But some agree with one interpretation of scripture over others, some enjoy one congregations company more than others, etc. White light is composed of multiple colors (wavelength frequencies really, but you get the point), I'm just asking why you're red light instead of green (for example). My question has nothing to do with right or wrong, 'real' Christian or 'fake' Christian, etc.

Peace.

that's an interesting analogy.

I was raised a Roman Catholic but left the church as a teen over theological differences and because it just felt .....well, actually, I didn't feel anything. I went 'cause it was a sin not to and it got my mom off my back.
I wandered all over the place (geographically and spiritually) until I got to a place where I was sending my daughter to a Catholic school (my mom's ironically enough) and I wanted to be able to answer her questions about God so I got a Bible and started reading. After several months (during which time I was involved in occult practices and was contacing demons) I finally got to read 1 Tim. 2:5 and when I saw that there was only one mediator between man and God, I knew I was in trouble and needed Jesus. Literally I felt a stab of light and things shattered around me in the spirit. I asked God to come and get me and He sent a co-worker to pray with me, he invited me to his church which was a charismatic church, I answered the call and got baptised in the Holy Ghost the next week. I have been a non-denominational Christian ever since, and have come to really dislike the denominational boundaries and labels we put on ourselves. Having said that, I am going to an AoG church now for the past several months, because it's where God has us for now.

Jesus was born in a stable.
And when He started His ministry, he was thrown out of the Synagogue and they nearly threw Him over a cliff.
So you are in good company.

Exactly and since we are all one body, we are yet divided by denominations and traditions.
