Smoke is not an infectious virus so it’s not a perfect analogy but in any case, intentionally blowing cigarette smoke into someone’s face can be charged as assault. But if you threaten to intentionally pass COVID to others, you can be jailed... Yet the tobacco industry is actively marketing and selling tobacco products.
Thanks for admitting that freedom is not completely unfettered, which was the point of my reply in the first place.Just because there are boundaries on the field doesn't mean you can't choose your plays. We still have thousands of choices as to what to put into our bodies or not.
Doing what?
They aren't doing that. People smoking tobacco are. A case could and was made they were deceiving people in the past, and they paid dearly for it. But right now they are just advertising to people and people are buying a hazardous product. They aren't threatening or attacking anyone.Causing more than 7 million deaths per year worldwide.
Nonsense. Everything that you can buy of food, beverage and medication is there after approval of the FDA. It must comply to strict regulations about content, absence of undesired substances like heavy metals, dioxins, PCB's, etc. The production facilities must follow strict hygiene rules as to avoid contamination of salmonella or other micro-organism, and the FDA audits on a regular basis these companies. If companies don't comply with he regulations a public (!) warning letter can be written.Really? Because I've made my own choices about what to eat, drink and what meds to take ever since becoming an adult.
Again with the moving goalposts. And you might have forgotten that many of us eat what we shoot, or get from a garden. There's still thosands of choices regardless. So, yes, I choose what I eat and drink from a wide variety of options.Nonsense. Everything that you can buy of food, beverage and medication is there after approval of the FDA. Warning Letters
After repeated non compliance, harsher measures, with ultimately closing can be applied.
Waht you eat, drink and inject is strictly regulated and monitored. You're just not aware of that.
Really? You are self-sustained?Again with the moving goalposts. And you might have forgotten that many of us eat what we shoot, or get from a garden. There's still thosands of choices regardless. So, yes, I choose what I eat and drink from a wide variety of options.
Not totally, but for a lot of years, most of our meat came from the woods and we used to get raw milk directly from Farmers, no FDA needed.Really? You are self-sustained?
Californian people voted for stricter regulations , when it comes to our health. I just think, I should have the right, not to be in danger, by other peoples bad habits or stupidly.Imagine living in CA, the mecca of more and more restrictions on human rights. I'd rather not.
Yes, this. There are tons of restrictions on tobacco sales and use, mainly as it pertains to second hand smoke. You’ll notice a lot of these restrictions are aimed at protecting the public at large from the harmful effects of smoke and not the individual who personally chooses to smoke.
No, we're not being selective. Rather, we have a bunch of quasi-libertarians in this country who get in the way, complaining about the nanny state every time somebody tries implementing policies like this. There's only so much obstruction we can overcome.
And it is still the leading cause of preventable deaths - why are we not following the science and preventing 480,000 deaths a year?
Yes, this.
Unlike a contagious virus, Smoking nowadays only affects those that choose to smoke.
Nobody chooses to get the Corona Virus.
