Again that's irrelvant (because I already knew that), my question was asking why bother with the bible or the faith in the first place if you think it has errors.
And secondly, belief is essential, if you're going to read a book and you think it's a bunch of crap you're not going to bother with it.
So, obviously, those of us who have bothered with it to a considerable degree do
not think it is a bunch of crap. Why do you continue loving somebody, even after you have found a flaw in their personality?
Because when something has enough good in it, that outways the minor flaws. In fact, the flaws help remind you that the thing, or person is
real, and thus, makes it all that much more worthy of respect.
God's power is endless. If he had wanted to drop a completed work from the sky, he could have, and there would be nothing spectacular about it--God can do much more amazing things. Most of us have seen them at some point in our lives. My sighting is a human being; others have experiences of their own.
But, for humans to have recorded this timeline of cultures and beliefs concerning God--and the evolution of the concept of "God" from tribal warfare, through legalism, mysticism, prophesies, the arival of a human avatar, and the beginnings of the world's reaction to him, and for this recording to
make sense, and, if studied, to have internal consistancy and continuity--That is a miracle.
And yes, some of those writers got some details wrong. You know, the dome of the Roman Pantheon was unrivaled in architecture for, what...15 Centuries? And the entrance the Pantheon--10 feet too short. Ever hear the phrase, "the flaw that makes the masterpiece"?
