So how come you can come out of OBOB and instruct us non-Catholics on it?

In a verse [or 2]....?

1 Corinthians 11
27 Therefore whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and of the blood of the Lord.

1 Corinthians 11
29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh judgment to himself, not discerning the body of the Lord.

To be worthy to receive the Eucharist of the CC, one has to Catholic, and must be a regular repentent confessor. IE...do not partake of it with any mortal sins. [sins unto death...see John]

WE have a closed Communion.
That is our policy and anyone who partakes knowing they are not in line with our teachings are partaking unworthily...
To be worthy [even a Catholic]
MUST be practicing Catholic and must have committed no mortal sins [to their knowledge]

problem is, none of us (with the exception of former Catholics) are the famiily members who "left."

It's more than that. There is bad blood both ways... and I think it has more to it than the reformation hundreds of years ago.

I doubt it has much at all to do with the Reformation.
It's much more subtle, ...

Reformation and persecutions of citizens that were of camp A by the leader who was of camp B. Happened to both.

The main problem that I see is that many Protestants can not get passed that the Roman Church today in 2008 is certainly not the same Roman Church as it was in 1517. Its been nearly 500 years and I think it is time for both sides to attempt at amends making.

Or at least invite each other to the family BBQ.

I've been invited by a priest to partake in Communion as well as a Sadr meal by a rabbi. But then, I was providing physical security for those men and their congregations at the time.
I am now beginning to wonder about your past.

I love when someone not of the faith tells those of the faith how they may or may not instruct those who wish to receive their Eucharist.

No, you may not tell me....and as for your friend...
I will just say he is wrong and he is wrong.

And if i ever found a priest doing this, i would tell his Bishop.
THAT is the proper thing to do for the laity.

SO unless you are Catholic you cannot instruct me on Catholic policy.
A similarity! Whenever there is a problem with the local priest we both go to the bishop!

Besides being married to a protestant...
My whole family of in laws and most of my friends are Protestant.

I know less Catholics. ^_^
My mom's whole family is nothing.
My family (dad, stepmom and myself) are the only Orthodox ones.
One of my aunt's and her family are devout RCs.
Two of my uncles are Protestant in some way, shape or form.

So you can understand why I consider everyone in my parish to be like a second family to me.:)

I would like to request that this thread be closed my a Mod. I have also deleted all my posts from this thread and I apologize to anyone if my posts caused any divisiveness among us.

Also, I will no longer be posting on GT after today concerning Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant Theological differences .
Thanks and God bless.

My point is that it is none of your business. It is between the person and the priest in question.

I would suggest that a better approach to LLoJ would have been something like..."You know, I would appreciate it if didn't partake since you clearly are not under our denomination. I find it disrepects our traditions."

BUT, you came out like the gestapo making demands that you really have no right to make.

EC, I provided physical security for chaplains and other non-combatants in combat zones....nothing mysterious, just a job.

Ok, I am totally and completely incredulous that you consider taking the Eucharist as a minor thing.

I learned something new today about you.

AND if a priest DOESNT KNOW if someone is Catholic...that is one thing, but to knowingly offer the Eucharist to someone who is not Catholic...is a whole different story.

Just wondering??? Why did LLoJ wipe out all his posts on this thread? Is that odd or is it just me?

Also, I never realized how fierce the battle truly is among Catholics and Protestants. Do Catholics believe they will be the only ones in heaven? Do they believe -- as some posts have alluded -- that all Protestants are on the wrong road?

Also, can anyone give me more insight into the Heidelberg Catechism -- was it meant for parents to teach to their children only? or was it meant to teach any new believer?

Go Cards!

Catholics beleiev they are the only church of Christ and that they are the only ones with the full teachings of the Apostles and Jesus.

Catholics do NOT see being a memeber of the Catholic Church as a ticket to enter Heaven.

But Catholics do see all that are in Christ as being Catholic.

This means that all that go to heaven are in Christ and thus Catholic even if they were members of a Protestant church or claimed to be an atheist.

Catholics do not place judgment but declare that all Christianity is Catholic.

Confusing huh?

It take a while to grasp how the Catholic Church views things.

WA do not be scandalized but I know that some RC priests do give communion out to non-catholics... it is a fact. I know at least two parishes that they do that.. .as a way to be "ecumenistic" extending a hand towards those who are not of the RC faith.

And I do not think taking the communion is minor ... do not turn this to a personal thing...
