  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why are SDA so paraoid of Jesuits?

And if no one else starts one, can I? The Catholics have think skin. They can bear it well. Being persecuted is a sign of something good.

Hey, do you know the SDA says the same thing?

Imagine that? How catholic of them.

The Jesuit were the military arm of the Catholic church, responsible for much of the *ahem* "conversion" of many nations. It isn't just SDAs that are worried about Jesuits, mind you. Many non Christians know the insidious history of the Jesuits. The current Pope pro tempro is a Jesuit.

actually, jesuit conspiracies are developed by people trying to make false prophecy appear true. Usually people with really big Bibles that they hold over their head.

The straw-man is often raised on "Jesuit" subject threads such as this - that only Seventh-day Adventists or people who pay attention to Bible prophecy would notice any problem at all - with the jesuit order.

----

News flash - the Pope himself extinguished the Jesuit order "forever" by "All the Apostolic power" that there is in the "seat of Peter" --

the fulness of our apostolical power, SUPPRESS AND ABOLISH THE SAID COMPANY:

Papal statement abolishing the Jesuit order – 1773. Clement XIV

"in the present case, we are determining upon the fate of a society classed among the mendicant orders, both by its institute and by its privileges; after a mature deliberation, we do, out of our certain knowledge, and the fulness of our apostolical power, SUPPRESS AND ABOLISH THE SAID COMPANY: we deprive it of all activity whatever
...
And to this end a member of the regular clergy, recommendable for his prudence and sound morals, shall be chosen to preside over and govern the said houses; so that the name of the Company shall be, and is, for ever extinguished and suppressed."

=======================================

So then - was the Pope a Seventh-day Adventst almost 75 years before there ever was one??

Is that how these straw-man claims play out when compared to actual history??

Or is actual history "evil" and should not be noticed??

Well you say that "as if" the Popes were also going around delcaring Dominicans, Franciscans... as all " for ever extinguished and suppressed."" -- as if "That is just what Popes do" in "the fulness of their Apostolic power" and of course "we all knew that - except for Seventh-day Adventists".

Really? that is what you want us to believe?

Bob

Noticing the details in actual history that do not flatter the Jesuits is 'evil' or to be mocked ... yes that will fix the problem... that's the ticket.

So your appeal to the actual details of history may not prove popular.

The cause of getting history "noticed" and possibly even "accepted" may have to wait until a late night comedy show personality takes up the cause in a string of jokes.

in Christ,

Bob

Jesuits were not the military arm of the Catholic Church. The closest thing to a military arm is the Swiss guards in the Vatican state.

That explains why the head of the Jesuit order has the title "General" and why they have to swear an oath as if their conscience was seared and they responded without thinking any more than a corpse would re-think about a command given. (yea - you just know that has to end up in a good place)

What oath would that be?

I ought to point out that the leader of the Society of Jesus is called the Superior General. The word 'general' in that title is not a military designation any more than it is in the title of the book "General Instruction of the Roman Missal"

Since BobRyan hasn't presented the text of the vow he alleges that members of the society of Jesus take I checked what the society of Jesus says about vows:
Q. 17: What are the Vows that Jesuits take?
A: The Jesuits, like all other Religious, takes vows of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience. In the case of Jesuits, the first vows are perpetual vows. They are taken after the first training period of training, called the novitiate.

Q. 18: Why do Jesuits also take Final Vows?
A: When a Jesuit has completed his entire formation and is ready for full incorporation into the Society, he is invited to profess Final Vows.
Q. 19: What is the fourth vow?
A: The fourth vow is primarily a vow to obey the Pope with regard to the missions.

Sorry but your wrong. They are boogeymen working with the Masons to rebuild the temple in Prague so the Antichrist can sacrifice a buzzard in the unholy of unholys. This will upset the Illuminati and they'll set off nukes destroying the world and after it's all over, only those who heeded the prophetess will remain and come out of their bunker with rakes and brooms to sweep up the mess just before boarding the rocket ship to Orion with a pocket full of quarters wearing Nike tennis shoes.
And you know this has to be true as you just read it on the internet. Bonjour.

Readers ought to note that: The Sixty-second United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, composed of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. It met in Washington, DC from March 4, 1911 to March 4, 1913, during the third and fourth years of William H. Taft's presidency.

It really has nothing to do with what the Society of Jesus did in that year a little over one hundred years ago.

Nope - not according to your own Pope.

That might have been more readily received coming from a comedian rather than the pope.

I don't see any "Jesuit oath" just some rather odd stuff reported in the records of that political meeting. It is about as credible as the house committee on unamerican activities in the 1950s.
