Hi, first post here :-D
John,
Take a look at this website which I think more than answers your question:
Did Jesus Make or Drink Alcohol? robertroberg dot com / writings / wine.html (Sorry, I don't have permission to share a link until I get 50 posts)

The Bible nowhere sanctions the use of intoxicating wine.

Remember God is our only judge, he alone knows our hearts. I was raised SDA and attend SDA churches regularly, I therefore consider myself a SDA, however I am humble enough to be the first to admit that there are things I am doing that are not what I should be doing. Don't judge an organization on what you saw some members doing. It's a shame when a few bad apples spoil the whole lot, and I'm sure every church has these. Instead, look into the core values of a religion and see for yourself (ie. judge the system not the people).Jewellery is forbidden but I have seen many SDAs who drive very expensive cars
As the author of the link I posted above states,I think everything is OK as long we dont surpass a certain level...
Another good point as quotes from the link,Even in moderation it is a poison. You wouldn't advocate adultery in moderation, or murder in moderation so why would you advocate taking Alcohol in moderation?
I believe that drinking alcohol (or any other damaging substance to the body, such as drugs) is frowned upon by God. More to ponder is 1) should we believe that Adam and Eve drank alcohol in the Garden of Eden (shouldn't this "acceptable" substance be part of the perfect utopia), and 2) should we believe that in heaven we will be drinking beer and wine for all eternity? Why wouldn't these be included in the Bible if true?At a wedding in Cana Jesus is said to have changed water into wine.
It is my belief that Jesus made fresh grape juice and not the forbidden Alcoholic wine. Would he who was sinless make a condemned substance? He would never have made a drink that causes people to lose visual acuity, mental acuity, bodily motor control and that leads to ravings, fighting, vomiting, memory-loss, cirrhosis of the liver, black-outs and loss of brain mass? It is unthinkable to suggest that he made alcoholic wine. It says that the people at the wedding ran out of beverage. If they had drunk all the alcohol they had are we to believe that Jesus made 60 gallons more? . They would have been falling down and slurring their speech and passing out. Would the lover of our souls really do that to people? Open your eyes he came to set us free from alcohol, not make party animals out of us.
