Simple question - I'm open to God, I have tried to have a relationship before and it just didn't work - no voice was there. What am I dong wrong?

Thanks,
Owen.
MY BROTHER,

Then whose voice was it that you heard telling you that you "weren't saved?"

Are you perhaps looking for a burning bush in your front yard?

So you think you are saved if you hear (or feel) the presence of God? Sounds like you are looking for a "how to" lesson in self delusion. What does it mean - you are open to God? Sounds like you are saying, ok if God exists, prove it. :)

If you expected such an approach to work, perhaps you should reconsider your understanding of the gospel of Christ.

It sounds as if you were waiting for a voice.

true faith is not a quid pro quo relationship. We are call slaves and servants for a reason. If you can learn to humble yourself before the Lord (Without strings and time limitations) He will lift you up. But also know this does not always mean you will hear a voice.

Owen,

Expecting to hear a voice is where you're going wrong, as others have said. To correct this kind of thinking I encourage you to keep reading your Bible to get to know God better. I suggest you stick to the New Testament and Psalms for now.

Praying for you.

MY BROTHER,

Might i point out what i have found to be true in this regard--

The Bible is God's written Word to us. He speaks to us from it--especially in the "early days" of our relationship with Him.

Later on in the relationship, when we have grown and become sensitive to His leading, He speaks to us directly through the Holy Spirit residing in our hearts.

Don't rush things and don't put the cart before the horse--God speaks to us directly when we have developed faith and trust in Him and become able to separate His voice from the voices of the world, the flesh, and the devil which often mimic His.

Study His written Word; pray for the growth of the relationship you are seeking; and trust that these mediums will bring you into His presence. We hear directly BECAUSE we believe, not IN ORDER TO believe.

I think you should watch this video: YouTube - Are you saved? - an Orthodox Christian answer.

Salvation is not simply intellectual assent to saying that you believe that Jesus is the Christ. We must all finish running the race in this life. I don't go around telling others that I'm saved either. My race isn't over and done with yet. I'm still trying to live a life in Christ and attempting to hear the word of God and keep it. :)

Unfortunately the simple fact you are asking the question is indication you do not have faith.

I have just recently within the last few months really started to make changes in my life to live for God. Listen to the Bible every day, include God in my decision making, have asked God in prayer numerous times to lead my life and to give me direction.

The results have been pretty staggering and have been nothing I have felt before. It was not some "voice" telling me what to do. It's feeling an amazing spirituality and have complete faith that Jesus has done what the Bible says he has done.

I truly hope you find what you are looking for.

God bless
