Wow, Emotional response.

The false teaching of eternal torture is something
we should get emotioal about...

Like the qoute by R.E.Lee. I re-enact and our company was in the movies Gettysburg and God's & Generals. I also collect civil war and love to study history. I do a lot of metal detecting in NC and Va.

yes it is, look at your question

this one

Which was....

Spiritually dead. That is why the Holy Spirit is needed to make us face spiritual reality before we are saved. What the Holy Spirit does is what we refer to as 'common Grace.' What the Holy Spirit does is substitute for our human spirit, so we can be placed into a position 'enabled' to understand what it is we are offered to believe. What we are offered, is faith.

We are spiritually dead before we are saved. You think it means physically dead?

Can you take what I said, point-by-point? And show why it is not so?

Now... If it is the Spirit who convicts even unbelievers of sin!? How much more so? Is the Spirit able to make us who were also spiritually dead? Able to see what was needed for salvation?! Even unbelievers are enabled by God the Holy Spirit to see that they sin.

John 16:7-9 (New International Version)
"But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.

When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me."

That passage you quote has nothing to do with enablement, but rather conviction. But I think we both know that I wasn’t questioning the “spiritually dead” part of your post.

Conviction is enabling one to see sin as being sin. Without grace one would not see one's sin as being sin.

Titus 2:11-12 (New International Version)
"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age."

Its the same grace that brings salvation, that teaches unbelievers who learn (through pain) to live morally in society.

The Greek word in this passage is not a typical one of a teacher/student setting. Its the word used to teach as when a parent allows the child who insists on touching the flame of the candle to get hurt. They learn to say NO! the next time they are confronted by such curiosity.

The grace of God teaches all men to eventually learn to become moral in a society. For those who refuse? God has provided law and punishment (Rom 13:1-5).

[/size]this still has nothing to do with enablement

Would men see their sin if God was not involved? Do animals see their behavior as sin? When a male dog mounts another male? Does he think it is sin?

Titus 2:11-12 (New International Version)
"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age."

That passage says that the GRACE of God teaches all men to say no to ungodliness. Grace does not enable?

All of us are born spiritual ignorant, not stupid. Through Adam, we are born spiritually dead. The nineteenth-century Scottish commentator John Eadie described it as a case of "death walking". Spiritually dead people are like zombies--they don't know they're dead and they're still going through the motions of living.

John 6:63
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

Recognizing the Jesus voice is like a sheep recognizing the shepherd's voice. Only the Holy Spirit can prick a person's heart to cause a person to hear Christ's voice. Jesus said in John 10:14-15 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.

Galatians 3:2
This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

1 Thessalonians 1:5
For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance (conviction), as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.

Just be a good person and God will love you. That's all you need to know.
That's all well and good, but:
  • Is it good to do God's will? If so, what is God's will?
  • Is it good to do what we 'feel' is good? If so, what about the criminally insane?

God's will is revealed in the New Testament:
Saved (1 Timothy 2:3-4; 2 Peter 3:9)
Spirit-filled (Ephesians 5:17-18)
Sanctified (1 Thessalonians 4:3-7)

If you feel good, you are follow the flesh's will.
