I like Peng DeHuai. He was a Member of Mao ZeDong's government and in 1959, during the Great Leap Forward, he wrote a letter to Mao. In the letter he told how the Great Leap Forward was causing famine and death across China. Mao had surrounded himself with people who told him only what he wanted to hear, which was that the Great Leap Forward was brilliant and moving forward wonderfully. Only Peng DeHuai had the courage to speak the truth. For his courage, Mao had him purged. He was stripped of his duties and in 1966, at the beginning of the Cultural Revolution, was imprisoned. He died in prison in 1974 from liver disease, having been denied treatment by Mao.

Curious, How is it that you think that the choice of this name will refute Christianity? And did you not know that we are already crucified, that is those of us that believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ?
If you are on a personal mission to end Christianity then you must be greater than all the past men of history that have led whole nations against Christians only to try and fail. You'll soon find out, as they did, that Christianity grows stronger when persecuted and you will fail.

Open up your heart Roman Soldier and confess just as the Roman Centurion did at the cross as he witnessed Christ's crucifixion "Truly this was the Son of God". And know that the Church is the Body of Christ.
As the Body is persecuted for His sake He will noever forsake it. He will not allow the gates of Hell to have dominion over it.
through out history many have been thrown to lions, put in fires, stoned, hung on trees, beaten, starved, run out of countries and even skinned alive, fed to wild dogs and the list of atrosity goes on yet Christianity is alive and well today.
So go ahead, if you still feel you must continue on this "mission" of yours, take your best shot. You will fail.

Who or what do I hate again?

Everyone is a Roman soldier, because either you are against Jesus (non-Christian) or responsible for his crucifixion (Christian).

An adulterer, who attempted to overthrow a democratically elected government because :shock horror: it was "communist" and nearly caused nuclear war which would have wiped us all out. Man was off his trolly.

Well A) he's not a historical figure B) his racist monkey who's taken America to war for the sole purpose of stealing its oil supplies. He's created a system where people are illegally held without trial where they are tortured and given neither their human rights as civillians, or their rights as POW's.

The man should be put on trial with saddam Hussein.

I hat the argument that a President was bad because he cheated on his wife. Kennedy did it. Clinton did it. Jefferson did it. FDR did it. Eisenhower did it. Alexander Hamilton, though not President, was an adulterer. Should FDR be labeled a bad President despite winning 4 consecutive terms and leading the nation through teh Great Depression and WWII, applying SS, and instituting other federal programs still running this day?

I always liked Voltaire. Alexander Hamilton. Cavour.

My most admired historical figure would undoubtably be Miyamoto Musashi. The man lived what I consider to be quite the full life. By the end of his life he had transformed himself into quite the honorable and enlightened man. Closest thing to a role model I have.

Martin Luther King likely cheated on his wife too.
Heroes need not be saints, but their heroism is defined by how they rise to meet the challenges that are set before them. Through their actions, history itself is changed, and for the better.
In that sense, the case that M.L. King, and John Kennedy being heroes is valid. Like Ghandhi, King showed that taking a non-violent stand agaisnt opression can be effective. For Kennedy, it was his charismatic presence that people still find inspirational. When the Russians had him figured as soft and a push-over, he proved himself to have nerves of steel.
Similarily, for all of his appearance of mediocrity, Bush too has let the world know that hatred of America can be a dangerous thing.

It's difficult to say really. There are so many. Gandhi, JFK, FDR & King are some of the one's that come to mind immediately. It also depends on your definition of what makes a historical hero. There are so many attributes which go to make a historical hero. But some people are born to be heroes like the one's I've just mentioned.

Now bringing it up to the 2nd millenium, a real controversial one:

Abolitionist John Brown. I know his history pretty thouroughly. Incompetant in many professions, bankrupt, a dysfunctional father. You could call him a murderer for what happened on the banks of the Mare de Cygnus but I can argue that. His botched raid on Harper's Ferry first death was one of the few slaves in the area. But he hated slavry with every bone of his body, a conviction supported by his faith. He died a martyrs death,which brought to the forefront the deadly division in the United States--and finaly ended (legally) our greatest national sin.
