Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom my soul delights. I have placed my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. He will not shout or cry out, nor will his voice be heard in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness, he will bring forth justice; he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth. In his teaching, the islands will put their hope.

This is what God the LORD says—He who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and all that comes from it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it: "I, the LORD, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison, and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.

I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols. See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being, I announce them to you."

Who do you think this passage is about and why do you think it?
I thought most people thought it was about Jesus?

Isn't LORD in all caps YHWH or Jehovah?

So isn't it YHWH talking about Jesus?

God Bless.

Yes, 'the LORD' means that YHWH (Jehovah) is in the Hebrew text.

Yes, it is traditional to interpret the passage as Christological.

Who do you think this passage is about and why do you think it?

It is not clear who Isaiah thought he was writing about in the Servant Songs. Perhaps Israel, perhaps an individual person, perhaps Israel personified as an individual, perhaps (under divine revelation) a foreseeing of the person and ministry of Jesus, perhaps some combination of these. From what I've read, scholars differ on the question.

From what we read in the gospels and Acts, Jesus saw himself as fulfilling the role of Isaiah's Suffering Servant, and the early church saw him in this role as well.

Who do you think this passage is about and why do you think it?
It seems very obvious that Isaiah is speaking of the Messiah. 1st, Jesus quoted this passage, obviously referencing himself. 2nd, in the context of the cosmic problem of sin, God's provision for sin, coming from Himself, would have to take place through Christ, the Son of God.

Who do you think this passage is about and why do you think it?
Isaiah 42:1-9 is one of several prophetic verses in the book. Clearly speaking of Christ.
