  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I personally believe that the name of each gospel is who wrote it. Although, Mark was not an apostle.

I'm not bashing anyone, that's just my theory.

Besides Mark not being an apostle (one of the twelve), neither was Luke and, probably, neither was the person named John of the fourth gospel. That leaves us with Matthew as the only one who was a known member of the twelve. And except for John (whoever that might have been) the authorship is not stated within the gospels themselves.

It really should not make any difference to our faith who the authors were. It only becomes an issue when it is made a doctrine. Otherwise, you can believe one way and someone else can believe another. Who wrote the gospels is the least important aspect of them; what is most important is believing IN them and following the Jesus who is revealed in their testaments.
