  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

By changing the rules mid-game.

If the primaries don't matter, why do we even bother to have them? But we did, and the message from the Democrats is, thanks for your vote, but we've decided to do whatever the heck we want.

Ah, democracy!
Should the DNC nominate Biden against his wishes?
Yes, they could try that, demand that Biden stay in the race.

pick. a. lane.

The DNC doesn't want Biden. Now. They did for the last 6 months. And then after all the votes were cast and it became apparent they were going to lose they were like, PSYCHE! The candidate we put on the ballot isn't even running anymore! LOL! Don't worry, we'll pick a good one for you!

And the Democratic faithful will fall in line, as they always do. But let's not pretend like the primaries don't matter. I mean, what's the point in having primary elections if the powerbrokers in the party can do whatever they feel like?

Biden didn't drop out of his own volition. He was pressured out by the party that turned on him. He wanted to run. But they wouldn't let him.

I'm not sure why you find this "weird". From January 23 through June 8, there have been primaries and caucuses to choose the Democratic candidate. Here are the results of this primary process:

But now, all of those elections and caucuses are moot.

Why do you think it's "weird" to point that out?

The time for Biden to drop out was January, before the primaries. Once he committed to running again with the Democratic establishment's blessing, that's when it became a problem to drop out this late in the game.

Interestingly enough, I just posted this article in another thread from when Biden was running in 2020:

According to four people who regularly talk to Biden, all of whom asked for anonymity to discuss internal campaign matters, it is virtually inconceivable that he will run for reelection in 2024, when he would be the first octogenarian president.
“If Biden is elected,” a prominent adviser to the campaign said, “he’s going to be 82 years old in four years and he won’t be running for reelection.”
Just more lies from the Democratic Party.

I see your point. But, if you want to keep the Republicans moderate, as a protest vote, you can vote for Chris Christie or Liz Cheney, or even Gary Johnson. Trump is by no means moderate, and is in a ring of far-right elites. My Republican friend here on the forum is voting either for Liz Cheney, or for someone else.
Thanks for the input! You're right...I don't even think Trump is a true Republican in the modern sense. I'm not sure what to think anymore about ANY politicians...have to keep doing my research.

Too late for the party to do that. Biden himself did it, as is his prerogative.
I don't think he felt he had a choice. Because of the negativity of his debates. And a interview. But I'm amused how the right side is complaining how we ditched him. When they said bad things about his mind. For the last 4 years. With that being said, I think the media will complain about every president. It's only going to get worse.

Anyone who thinks Biden stepped down of his own volition has simply not been paying attention for the past few weeks. There was a focused media pressure campaign to get Biden to drop out. It was not a"patriotic" nor "selfless" act by Biden and anyone who tells themselves that is simply not dealing in reality. It was a coercive and manipulative campaign by the Democratic Party to run him off when it became apparent he could not win.

You are welcome. If you want a true, pro-life Catholic politician, Peter Sonski might fit the bill, though he is 3rd party. @chevyontheriver can tell you more about him.

You are welcome, brother in Christ. Sonski is also pro-environment as well, if one likes the environment. I like his stances, and he keeps a good composure.

I'm actually surprised Harris is leading the vote so far. Maybe it's a call for unity around one candidate, but I'd think she would be the weakest and least popular of all the candidates. Maybe I'm wrong.

The right time for Biden to "decide he was unable to run" was BEFORE the primaries so that the voters could select their candidate.
Unfortunately, Obama's time machine was in the shop, so...

It's great that you're fine with whoever the Democrats choose to serve up to you. But stop pretending like you're concerned about democracy when you're OK with circumventing the process at all costs to win.
This isn't circumventing anything. Had Biden died instead, we'd be in the exact same place we're in now. There are procedures in place for stuff like this, candidates have dropped out of the race before (granted, earlier in the process, but still) and that's how democracy works in the real world. It's not ideal, granted, but we deal with it.

And don't pretend if it had been Trump who stepped down instead of Biden, you still would be calling it "circumventing democracy." We all know the rules are different when it comes to Trump.

There was a coordinated effort by the power brokers in the Democratic Party to oust Biden. Biden was absolutely forced out.
If the 25th Amendment had been invoked, you'd have a point.

It wasn't.

So, you don't.

-- A2SG, what are you complaining about....weren't you in favor of him dropping out before he actually did it?

I guess the argument is that if any democrat would drop out at this stage it just means democrats should not run a candidate.
I'm not sure it is supposed to be followed through to any logical conclusions, just trigger a knee jerk "libs bad" emotional response in the target.
