David,
2Thessalonians2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
Where does Jesus return to in Zechariah 14:4-5? The Mount of Olives is directly across from the temple mount. There is not a temple standing now, but there will be.
The Jews (Judaism) according to their beliefs cannot do daily animal sacrifices unless there is a temple standing. One has to be built.

Douggg, though I fully agree that Jesus will obviously return to Jerusalem when He comes, as if it makes sense He would come to Mexico instead, or Canada, or even the USA, still, none of this requires that a literal temple has to be there in order for Him to return there. But let's assume there has to be a literal temple there at the time. What about the following then?
Ezekiel 38:20 So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.
Does not this verse say---and every wall shall fall to the ground? How could a rebuilt temple, assuming one is built, still be standing once this is fulfilled---and every wall shall fall to the ground? Does the text say only some walls will fall to the ground? Or does the text say every wall shall fall to the ground? Which then makes one wonder, if this alleged rebuilt temple is the one meant in Ezekiel 40-48, like some interpreters have proposed, and that this temple is present during the millennium, how is that even logical if this happens to it instead, prior to the beginning of the millennium---and every wall shall fall to the ground?
