There used to be a "apply to be a mod" button on every page, and now I don't see it.

Or maybe I'm imagining that! :)

It had all the expectations in there, so I'm sure Tall or Sophia will be able to point you to where it is now.

The link has been removed because the process has changed. CF is no longer using mod applications. The congregational forums are supposed to set up their own eligibility requirements and procedures for electing mods. Until those are done, we are supposed to use the procedures posted earlier in this thread.

The old four-hour minimum requirement for mods was never accurate. Most mods spend way more time than that, and the SDA forum has always generated tons of reports. It's one of the most contentious forums at CF. Unless we have at least five or six mods here, it's going to be a big burden to those who agree to take on the responsibility.

you are not grasping the point... from day one people here have said, "no debate, no debate" yet what constitutes a debate has never been defined... so the concept is vague and that works in favor of those who want to blast another person then claim, we are not to debate....

Yes, there are some subjective elements in deciding what constitutes debate as opposed to discussion. That has always been an issue at CF in general in the forums that have been designated for discussion only.

It's already been defined, but I'm sure we'll be more definitive in the wiki process.

It is not debate.
Those who do not identify themselves as Adventists may not discuss reasons for or against a subject being discussed on this forum. This includes questions that essentially are rebuttal or argumentative in nature.

Yes, the guidelines posted in our temporary rules sticky about debate and fellowship posts were originally posted by daveleau under the old system and were used in many of the congregational forums. Still, sometimes moderators have different opinions about what constitutes debate.

This leads me to a importan point, we need to set up a quiet time in the debate forum so moderators can also have rest from their labors if posible, coparable to a Adentist nurse or doctor not working if possible on the Sabbath.
A twenty-four [hour] Sabbath has no relevance on the internet.

And the people who are best qualified to be mods won't because they are under a cloud of suspicion, not because of the ability to moderate but because they hold strong positions that others are unable to deal with.

The proposal allows for the round earth and the internet, it asks for "Quiet Time from sundown friday to sundown saturday in each timezone",so if it is still Sabbath in California they can still continue debating but with the knowledge that some moderators have begun the Sabbath in the east coast and may not be responding till Sabbath is over in their timezone. I handle clients from around the globe, but we are not 24/7 and we let them know and rarely have a problem, and come Monday we read their email or other communication and get back to them.

I used to work with Russian and other European programmers and we would send our test results then wait 24 hours for them to call us and discuss it. If it was urgent and we had to ship, we woke them up in the middle of the night, and lets just say you dont want to wake up a disgruntled Russian at any time of the night......

How is the any different from what is happening now. Everybody knows that the moderators can only moderate when they are online, Sabbath or not? The rule is superfluous.

I'm sure glad Senti doesn't want to get involved in the rule-making process. ;)
I love watching train wrecks happen but it is my nature not to stand by and do nothing to ameliorate the disaster. I was blessed so I could serve, even though some don't realize what they are fighting against.

I just am trying to make sure a 'fire' doesnt break out from carelessness in Mrs Murphy's barn such as leaving the lantern behind the cow. The fireman will always be there, but since they are 'volunteers' they would get to do what they they choose on their day off, if only people be more careful so they arent called on it to fight a preventable 'flame'....:)

Red, I know you didn't get in the wiki discussion but it was decided that if anyone has a suggestion for a rule idea and they suggest it in there, and it will be voted on.

Show me where this 'wiki' is and I'll put it there as I have been putting it where I can find a pertinent thread or link....

Someone else is going to have to second IceDragon101. I just saw some comments that deeply disturbed me and I can't back him to be a mod anymore.
you have a problem with me.? care to share? It seems that you have made up your mind and slandered me with out any evidence and with out hearing my side of the story.
