Lol, yes a simple no would work. But that is what they put in the guidelines, and is a hold-over from the old system. I guess it sounds more polite..or patronizing, depending on your perspective :)
Ohhhh! *lol* Makes sense now. I wasn't sure if it meant something other than no or not. ^_^

Just to make sure you know, leave my name out for the moment, Tall. I'll let you all know tomorrow, k? :)

Tall, are the votes private in those polls?

I just have this thing about not wanting to hurt anyone's feelings. I really don't want the results to be public.
Sounds fair enough, actually. That way we don't have any petty arguements from the "So and so didn't vote for me because I'm progressive/traditional" or anything like that.

I don't know. I will check on that.

We could always agree to make it private if folks prefer. The problem with private is that anyone could vote...from any forum.

Therefore if we make it private we should have longhair confirm that all votes are by Adventists, if that is possible, as defined in our previous poll, and if not their vote could be removed.

That would be fine with me. If it allows folks to be honest then I am for it.

Honestly, the whole "prog/trad" thing is going to play NO part in my decision(s).

But I do think people would assume that is how people are voting.

We need a moderator (LOL) to make sure that everyone that votes fits the criteria of what we voted on before though.
you are only one... however I know you are not naive enough to think that it will not play a part in the minds of others as they vote....

Hm...I am not sure the software would allow the mod to know.

There may be another way...a moderated thread...it would allow the mods to see what is written but we would not. We could just type yes or no and the mods would count. With several mods confirming we would know they were being honest, but couldn't see the votes ourselves...

other options?

Then you run the risk of people saying the mods were partial and didn't accurately tally up the votes.

Maybe public is the best way to do it, but I just added another question to my list to ask each potential mod! :)

I feel the same way. :) It's how a person ACTS to me, not what they believe.

That could work, too. Hm. I can't think of another option at the moment, either. In a perfect world a public poll is best..but not if people get upset over it.

What about you starting a simple poll to ask people's opinion on this, Tall? Giving those three options: Public poll, private poll, or mod thread. Might be the best way to handle it. :)

Blessings and Love

Edit - The poll also would take away the opportunity for people to easily complain if they believe the chosen way turned out unfair, right?

Longhair said we really only have two options--private and public.

The private cannot be monitored by mods, which means sock voting, outsider voting, etc.

So basically we have one option, public polls.

Good evening friends.

I am sorry to say that the poll is either private from all or public to all. There is no way to just have Moderators see the votes cast.

At the conclusion of the election, I will sponsor the newly elected moderators and work with the CF staff to expedite their training and installation. Your forum will be much better served with SDA Moderators of your choosing.

as I said, you don't know me, because if you knew me, you would know that I express myself more openly in person than I do on the internet... On the web I can filter, go back and edited, etc... in real life, that is not necessarily possible.....

I'm not saying I'm perfect, but the love of christ has to shine through in the posting that others would know you have been forgiven. We need to keep that in mind when we express ourselves online or in person.

I'd vote the same way public or private. But if that's not the case with others, then we should vote privately.

I tried to get on this site last night to post this, but it was down. I was at church today until almost 5 because of Worship Team Meeting.

Unfortunately, I am going to have to decline any nomination(s) I may have received for being a moderator.

I have read over everything, and I've seen one or two things that, well, to put it bluntly, causes me great concern. For one thing, I read something about "everyone taking care of problem posts". I don't know what the devil that actually meant, and don't really care to find out. I just know that wouldn't work.

My second major concern would be that the mods would be fighting as much behind the scenes as goes on "in front of the camera" on this forum, and I simply don't have the time, nor the patience for that.

The best moderators in the world won't be able to teach you all how to get along with one another. That's something you are going to have to do on your own, with God's help.

I wish the ones who have the courage to take this on, all the best.
