Ladies, gentlemen, and esteemed homies of TAW, it's come to my attention that some of you have changed your names in the past few months. Which is fine, but unfortunately it's kind of difficult to figure out who all of you are and who you all have been, especially if you change avatars and signatures at the same time as your name. So could those of you who have changed your names in the last several months or so please tell me what your former aliases are?

Great thread. I wish I had thought of it!

I started here as thornygrace.

then, people complained about how when they shortened it it was "thorny" and they didn't like that. I was staff at the time, so I changed it briefly to ~xenia~ but Erwin the owner at the time said he didn't like it.
Also, our "xenia" here at TAW was getting my pm's.

So, I changed it to Xenia Rose.

But, the space between the names caused problem in some staff things I do, and prevented me from doing any staff email.

Then we had a flood of trolls in CF (but not thankfully TAW) who were causing mischief with staff and we were told to not use our real names any more as screen names.

Rose is my real last name and Xenia is my Christian name.

After much thought, I changed it to Akathist.

Well I started off as BlakeMichael a few years ago here on CF. Later down the line during my inquiry I changed it to Isaac the Syrian, the name of my Patron, and now I changed it to Sacrum Silentium which is Latin for "Sacred Silence", just out of respect for hesychasm and the holy silence which speaks louder than words.

Started here with my amateur radio callsign as my username. I realized that people can easily find my real name and address that way, so I changed it to Kjell Bjarne, a name from a Norwegian film that apparently almost no one knows.

I'd like to change it to something with Seraphim in it, but I obviously lack sufficient blessings.

I, the heck, am Michael, the Iconographer. My name has changed little from what I registered as 3 years ago. I started out as Iconographer, then changed it to Brushstroke to go incognito for a few months while my x-wife was spying on me on line, and for the past 2 years have been Michael the Iconographer, except for a brief stint as the "Mad Repper."

FTR, I've never changed, and my name derives from a Latin word that basically means "lady".

Kyrie is not something that really needs explaining to most of you Kyrie eleison is probably one of the more common Orthodox prayers - Lord have mercy.

I have been known to go by kyrieflutter (add butterfly reference to my name, which I've done since I was 13) and katzchenfisch other places though. Katzchenfisch is a made up german word - katzchen is kitten and fisch is...fish, and together it makes 'kittenfish'
For a long time I was part of a church called the fish gate and we referred to each other as 'fish', and I have a medical condition that has 'ichth' in the name so... and kitten is my nickname from a few people.

So yes that's me.

I guess since mine is relatively obscure I'll explain. Fuer ein literally means "for one" in german, though I am not sure if I have the correct form of the words for that combination. There is really no reason for that particular that combination of words other than I was signing up for something online once and was having trouble finding a free username. So, I threw two german words together (I took german in HS and spent a month in germany the summer after my junior year) since I figured on sites visited primarily by english speakers I wouldn't have much trouble with a combination of german words. Haven't had much trouble with using it on different sites since then.

Actually I picked the name after a character in L. Frank Baum's Oz books called the Hungry Tiger. He's introduced in Ozma of Oz. I have some of this quote in my signature, but here's some more:

First came a magnificent golden chariot, drawn by a great Lion and an immense Tiger, who stood shoulder to shoulder and trotted along as gracefully as a well-matched team of thoroughbred horses.

. . .

The Cowardly Lion had a big bow of blue ribbon fastened to the long hair between his ears, and the Tiger wore a bow of red ribbon on his tail, just in front of the bushy end.

In an instant Dorothy was hugging the huge Lion joyfully.

"I'm SO glad to see you again!" she cried.

"I am also glad to see you, Dorothy," said the Lion. "We've had some fine adventures together, haven't we?"

"Yes, indeed," she replied. "How are you?"

"As cowardly as ever," the beast answered in a meek voice. "Every little thing scares me and makes my heart beat fast. But let me introduce to you a new friend of mine, the Hungry Tiger."

"Oh! Are you hungry?" she asked, turning to the other beast, who was just then yawning so widely that he displayed two rows of terrible teeth and a mouth big enough to startle anyone.

"Dreadfully hungry," answered the Tiger, snapping his jaws together with a fierce click.

"Then why don't you eat something?" she asked.

"It's no use," said the Tiger sadly. "I've tried that, but I always get hungry again."

But I've never eaten any, because my conscience tells me it is wrong. If I had no conscience I would probably eat the babies and then get hungry again, which would mean that I had sacrificed the poor babies for nothing. No; hungry I was born, and hungry I shall die. But I'll not have any cruel deeds on my conscience to be sorry for."

"I think you are a very good tiger," said Dorothy, patting the huge head of the beast.

"In that you are mistaken," was the reply. "I am a good beast, perhaps, but a disgracefully bad tiger. For it is the nature of tigers to be cruel and ferocious, and in refusing to eat harmless living creatures I am acting as no good tiger has ever before acted. That is why I left the forest and joined my friend the Cowardly Lion."

"But the Lion is not really cowardly," said Dorothy. "I have seen him act as bravely as can be."

"All a mistake, my dear," protested the Lion gravely. "To others I may have seemed brave, at times, but I have never been in any danger that I was not afraid."

"Nor I," said Dorothy, truthfully.

Anyway, I thought it was a fun, interesting story and found the Hungry Tiger as someone I could relate to. I'm a sinner with passions I should refuse. If only I could be as strong as the Hungry Tiger (or as brave as the Lion for that matter).

And then also, I think there's another passage in one of the books, though I haven't been able to find it again, where the current adventure is all over and they're having a great feast. The Hungry Tiger is there and he's astonished that he could be full eating something other than fat babies. And you know, the only thing that could really fufill me too is wholesome food. God, His church, His will. Like the passage with Photini the Samaritian women at the well

Jesus answered and said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life."

That's how one is never hungry again.

That was probably more than you wanted to know, but oh well.

Hoankan is Japanese and means sheriff. About ten years ago I volunteered as a sheriff's deputy in my county. After coming to Japan the first time, I was helping with a kids English play. We had a welcoming party for two actors from America to help us with it. One of the main sponsors of the play and I talked for a while and I told him about my past. The next day at play practice he had forgotten my name and started calling me Mr. Hoankan and it stuck.
