  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Actually, Yashua's post reminds me of this Scripture:
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel-- not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. (Galatians 1:6-7)
Of course, I doubt he really wants us to kill him. Rather, he wishes to say "look, the Bible is evil!"

Ever think of them as metaphors?

No, because contextually we are not talking about parables, we are talking about actual literal commdsn from Yahweh in the Tanakh/Old Testament.

As far as the "new covenant" idea is concerned, I believe this is a very weak apologetic to appeal to, because it does not negate the fact that according to the days before this a supposedly perfect and loving creator committed and commanded his human followers to commit such atrocious acts{on even children,babies and virgin women,etc}, showing him to be merely a reflection of his followers{or rather his creators}whom made him into their own image, as all people make their gods into their own images.
This god was anthropomorphized and given petty human emotions and jealosies and outbursts of vengeance and anger, as if he were a spolied child or someone w/a damaged self-esteem that needs affirmation and people to abuse and dictate to to make himself feel right, when many of his acts,feelings, and fruits show himself to be the exact likness of what his followers scapegoat their devils to be, a projection of his own more hateful and tyrannical side.

I have yet to see any Christian apologist adequetly explain Yahwehs hypocritical brutalities w/out essentially just running from the issue or passing it off in some way or another.

Fortunately, I read through the NT first when the Lord entered my life, and when I started reading the "gory/bloody" OT, that got me wondering how the "OT/OC" God could be so different from the teachings of the NT/NC Word of God. In either case, God does show One Time of the End event in the Bible, but whether it is symbolic, alleghorical or a reality is up to the one reading and interpreting the scriptures I suppose. Peace.

zeph 1:16 A day of trumpet and alarm Against the fortified cities And against the high towers. 17 "I will bring distress upon men, And they shall walk like blind men, Because they have sinned against the LORD; Their blood shall be poured out like dust, And their flesh like refuse." 18 Neither their silver nor their gold Shall be able to deliver them In the day of the LORD's wrath;

Reve 14:20 And the winepress was trampled outside the city, and blood came out of the winepress, up to the horses' bridles, for one thousand six hundred furlongs.

Then tell me how do you justify God in the passages above. Please elaborate as to the justfication for Killing someone caught in adultary??
Make that who should the Jews kill, as the law is for the Jews no one else.
:) Well, most of the Bible does concern the Jews and Israel. :wave:
In fact, I view the "hail" in the OT/NT as a symbol of "stoning" as a Harlot/Prostitute is mentioned in Revelation. Pretty interesting.

Isaiah 28:16 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily. 17 Also I will make justice the measuring line, And righteousness the plummet; The hail will sweep away the refuge of lies,

Reve 16:21 And great hail from heaven fell upon men, [each hailstone] about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great.
