I'v been recently looking into starting up my own e-biz, hopefully while I go back to school so I can pay for my tuition and books.

I've looked into Ebay but there seem to be lots of problems with that site. It just seems that the popularity makes it so attractive.
Been looking around at other sites to start but still in the researching stage.

Anyone here in e-biz?

I run what you could call two e-businesses.

1) I blog. Yeah, I know what you're thinking. But last year I made almost $10,000 in advertising revenue. This year I've already made over $6,000. It's not a living, but it helps.

2) An online store for music artists I work with (all bluegrass). Selling CDs, t-shirts, downloads, etc.

I would put links, but I'm not sure if that's allowed or not.

What kind of ebusiness are you wanting to start? What product(s) or service(s) would you be selling?

I recently started an e-Business as well. I started using eBay but they took such high fees out. It often made it difficult to make money. I am now finalizing an e-commerce site using Zen Cart. (zen-cart.com) It's a free ecommerce site that is supported by most hosting services. You only need to know basic HTML skills to get it going; customizing it can be a bit more work but with persistence I am sure you can do it!

I will be carefull about self promotion but feel free to check out my nearly completed site at ajaniluxury.com

Writing has been a passion of mine for years; it's nice to start a business that supports this passion!

Good luck and feel free to post back if I can help you get started.

I do hosting and web design as my ebusiness, along with my side hobby of organic gardening supplies. It's fun, but the hard part is kicking yourself in the butt like a real boss would when you don't get the job done like you should.

If you can do that, and manage to keep yourself motivated, then you can be successful

Our online Christian store/catalog company launches August 1st and it's hard work but if you work with the motivation and as someone said before "kick yourself in the butt" like a real boss would when you neglect to get the job done, it can be very rewarding. I've helped others get everything they need to upstart their business, but mine finally goes online in a couple days.

I have my own cafepress store, sell screensavers and calendars and my own photographs. The cafepress store is actually doing quite well considering how small of a market I'm targeting. (aviation) I've sold about $1,200 worth of items so far.

The hardest part of an ebusiness is getting the word out. If you can get people to blog about your product that helps. Unfortunately most of the web site where you can talk (like here) won't let you post your site information. Ebay will help get your product exposed. I just had my 100th sale with very little promotion. I'm almost afraid of too much advertizing since my inventory is relatively small. You'll have to make a decission of where you want to be big or small. You'll probably need a seperate checking account and check on taxes with your state. God bless you.

(Did you have any education or training?
Jan)

I am self-taught since 1998, so my internet education and training have been mainly from doing and falling and then getting back up to do it again until I succeed.

Working mainly with churches and not for profit organizations is more of a mission for me than a job. Statistically, a church, school, or nonprofit is charged way more than the average business by most design companies.

I work on a different paradigm in that I charge them less than I would charge an average business customer. My work over the last three years has been exclusively with not for profit agencies, and I'm happier and more blessed than I ever was before I made this shift. My server runneth over, and my cup as well :)

(happystar)

I would be happy to take a look at your site and offer a few suggestions. It's tough getting quality traffic these days, especially for your type of site, because of the boom in diet sites over recent years. But, I would be happy to take a look and see if I can offer assistance. Feel free to PM or email me with your site details and I'll get back to you ASAP.

peace

Mine is sort of a ministry AND business. I am a writer, songwriter and photographer, focusing mainly on Scripture-based products. I have my own website, http://www.SongsfromtheWord.com, where I offer free original Scripture songs and Bible column samples, plus a Christian Gifts Mall. The mall features my devotions book, Fast Track to Victory, A Christian Guidebook, which distills the biblical truths which set us tree to love and forgive others, put God first, set aside pride, and lots more. Also featured are my original Scripture song CDs, Scripture posters, Bible-based health materials and more.

Blessings,
Cheryl Rogers
