Hello all

So everyone says they trust scripture. Lets let Scripture tell us who this woman is by the symbols we are given to describe her.

Who is the Woman in Rev 12:

Some say it is Israel, some say it is Mary some says it is the Holy Spirit. Who does Scripture say this woman really is. We need to look at what is said about her.

1: And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:

She is clothed in the Sun and stands on the Moon and has a crown of 12 stars.

2: And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.

She is about to give Birth

5: And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

She bears a Man Child who will rule the world and who is caught up to God’s Throne.

I think everyone agrees that the Man-child is Jesus. So it is easy to see why so many say the woman is Mary. Others say no Israel brought forth Jesus not Mary. Others say it was the Holy Spirit

First, we need to see who scripture says brought forth Jesus so that we trust the Word of God not the doctrines of men.

Matt:1:20: But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

This verse says it is the Holy Spirit that brings forth Jesus. What else does God’s Word tell us.

Lk:1:35: And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Once Again it is the Holy Spirit that brings forth Jesus.

So we See that Scripture tells us it is the Holy Spirit that brings forth Jesus not Mary and not the Nation of Judea.

So does this mean the Holy Spirit is a WOMAN??????????? That is a very Gnostic view of the Holy Spirit. I do not believe that is what is being said. We need to remember this is all metaphoric, we need to look at who Scripture says a woman in prophetic scripture is.

12: And he said, Thou shalt no more rejoice, O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon: arise, pass over to Chittim; there also shalt thou have no rest. 13: Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not, till the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness: they set up the towers thereof, they raised up the palaces thereof; and he brought it to ruin. 14: Howl, ye ships of Tarshish: for your strength is laid waste 15: And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot. 16: Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered. 17: And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth.

Above we see the religion of Tyre called a virgin of the Kingdom.

Jer: 46:11: Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: in vain shalt thou use many medicines; for thou shalt not be cured.

Once again the religion of Egypt is referred to as a Virgin a woman.

Isa:47:1: Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate. 2: Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers. 3: Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man. 4: As for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel. 5: Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.

Again we see the religion of Babylon referred to as a virgin a woman. We know it is the Spirituality of Babylon it is talking about the city is only the seat of the false religious belief.

12: Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth;

The word sorceries really means prophecy that was the whole purpose of the sorceries to obtain prophecy.

13: Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators,

Jer:18:13: Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing.

Jer:31:4: Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.

Here we see the faith of Judea called the Virgin of Israel.

So what evil thing did the Virgin of Judah do?????

Jer:7:30: For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it.

So here we see that the evil did by the virgin is false worship. She played the harlo

It is clear that in prophetic scripture a Woman is used to describe a religion, in modern terms a Church. It is important to understand that in ancient times religions were all based around a city and a temple. So the Virgin of Babylon is the religion of Babylon the virgin of Israel is the religion of Israel all based in a city where people would come to worship.

So lets look at the symbolism of this woman

1: And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:

So lets go through these symbols one by one what is meant by clothed with the sun.

Ps:84:11: For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

So does this mean the woman is wearing God/sun. Is there another verse to back this, is there other verses that tell us to wear God?

Eph:6:11: Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Eph:6:13: Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

It is clear that in Eph: Paul is directly referencing Ps:84. So this woman / church (IE: religious belief) is wearing God as Armour and a shield.

What about the moon this woman is standing on the moon. What does this mean?

Ps: 82:36: His seed shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before me. 37: It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven.

Here we see God says the promise will be forever established as the Moon.

Put this all together and what do you get?

You get a Religion/Church clothed in the Armour of God and Standing on the Promise.

The Woman is the True Church / Faith /Religion of God gained by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. That is who brought forth the male Child. As she promised through the power of the Holy Spirit to the prophets.

See how easy it is when you let Scripture tell you what it means.

If you continue reading you will see the Dragon raises Rome the Beast of Rev 13 to hunt down and kill the woman.

Obviously the verse does not say that since it is right there for all to see. It says the child is of the Holy Spirit not that the HS "brings forth Jesus". The HS is responsible for the male part of the conception of the child while Mary contributed the egg for the female part of this.

What happens to the woman does not match what happened to Mary so this woman is not a singular person but is going to be symbolic of a nation, Israel. That's why there are 12 stars for the 12 tribes.

The woman described in Rev 12 is Mary. That she is "clothed in the sun" alludes to dawn, i'e., the "bright morning star", the first sign of dawn, and a sign of the Jewish messiah. The "moon beneath her feet" is actually "the moon between her feet", i.e., "between her legs". She is giving birth to "the moon", another rabbinic sign of the messiah.

Revelation 12 then goes on to describe Satan seeking to destroy her child, which is a description of Herod and the slaughter of the innocents. That the woman flees to the wilderness is the re-telling of the flight to Egypt, where the writer states they remain for three and a half years before returning to Israel.

The Church could be a complimentary comparison since Mary is the Mother of the Church.

Mary is not the mother of any church. She was a woman who birthed the Messiah...that's it.

It's obviously Israel, this is the midpoint of the tribulation, she flees to the wilderness to escape the dragon. None of the saints would have to do this since they are in heaven. She is out there for three and a half years and not coincidentally this is exactly half way through the tribulation and almost exactly half way through Revelations.

No, I would say that the Woman of Revelation is Mary, the Mother of God, and, by way of her, the Church, too. Compare Revelation 12:5 to Psalm 2.

The woman that John see in heaven is not a literal woman. She is a sign, or a symbol.-Revelation 1:1.

In some scriptures, women are represent as organizations “married” to inanimate things/beings. In the Old Testament, Israel was spoken of as a wife of God. (Isaiah 54:5; Jeremiah 3:14, 20) In the New Testament, the congregation of anointed Christians is spoken of as Christ’s bride. (Revelation 21:9-14) The symbolic woman John sees is also symbolically married to someone, and she is about to give birth. Later her child is “caught away to God and to his throne.” (Revelation 12:5) God claims the child as his own. Therefore, the woman that John sees must be God’s symbolic wife.

Centuries earlier, God had addressed this symbolic wife. (Isaiah 54:5, 13) Jesus quoted this prophecy and showed that these sons were his faithful followers, who later formed the congregation of anointed Christians. (John 6:44, 45) So these members, spoken of as God’s sons, are also children of God’s symbolic wife. (Romans 8:14) The apostle Paul adds the final piece of information when he says: “The Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother.” (Genesis 3:15; Galatians 4:26; Philippians 3:20) The “woman” seen by John, then, is “the Jerusalem above.”

Since Paul spoke of her as “above,” and John sees her in heaven, she is clearly not an earthly city; neither is she the same as “New Jerusalem,” since that organization is the bride of Christ. (Revelation 21:2) Notice that she is crowned with 12 stars. The number 12 is associated with completeness in an organizational setting. Hence, these 12 stars seem to indicate that she is an organizational arrangement in heaven, just as ancient Jerusalem was on earth. Jerusalem above is Jehovah’s universal organization of spirit creatures that acts as his wife, both in serving him and in producing symbolic offspring.

In the Bible, labor pains often symbolize the hard work needed to produce an important result. (Compare Psalm 90:2; Proverbs 25:23; Isaiah 66:7, 8.) No doubt labor pains of this kind were experienced as God’s heavenly organization prepared for this historic birth.

Very good Mark51.

The woman represents a congregation Of God in the kingdom of heaven. Not Mary. Not RCC. Not Modern nation Israel.
Out with the Old Jerusalem and in with the New Jerusalem. AMEN!

Actually, Jerusalem represents people, like the Old Testament congregation, the New Testament Congregation made up of two groups of people within a physical representation of God's Kingdom on earth, the Church. The True Jerusalem make up of Chosen Elect and the harlot make of professed Christians within the Church. That is why God has commanded his Elect to come out of Church WHEN THEY SEE the house called by His Hame has become more and more rebellious with more professed Christians flocking into her and the rise of false prophets and christs ruling therein. She is Babylon the Great!

12: Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth;

Wow, so no one got this tight save one guy, but he didn't give the passage that verifies this truth.

Rev. 12:1 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: 2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. 3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.

Genesis 37:9 And he {Joseph} dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.

It is CLEARLY Israel. The Nation Israel BIRTHED their Messiah, a MALE CHILD not a Man Child, the translation is wrong basically. The Dragon Beast here represent Satan, in Rev. 13 the Beast is the Anti-Christ in Rev. 17 the Beast is Apollyon.

Israel Flees to Petra for 1260 Days, not the Holy Spirit, not Mary, not the Church which has been Rapryed to Heaven.

Again, the woman represents the congregation of Israel in the kingdom of heaven, transcends time.

Genesis 37:9 And he {Joseph} dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.

Again, Joseph dreamed about the congregation of Israel through them.

At the time of Christ's birth, Israel was a representative of God's kingdom on earth. She is the old testament congregation. The dragon represents Satan. However, at the Cross, her kingdom representative was taken from her and gave to the New Testament congregation, the Church. So the woman continued through the church in the New Testament period until the time of the end.

Israel Flees to Petra for 1260 Days, not the Holy Spirit, not Mary, not the Church which has been Rapryed to Heaven.

This was not what God prophesied. Nothing to do with Jews fleeing to Jordan 70AD or modern Israel. It applies to the New Testament congregation where she is found all over the world when she becomes apostate in the time of the end. That is when God has commanded His Elect to come out of her and flee to the mountains, not physically, but spiritually. You got the player and timing wrong.

No it didn't the nation of Israel did not exist for over 700 years when Jesus was born.

Of course Israel still existed. It was simply "lost".

Mat_15:24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Hello all

So everyone says they trust scripture. Lets let Scripture tell us who this woman is by the symbols we are given to describe her.

Hello Facts!

The analogy of the sun, moon and twelve stars appears in the book of Genesis (you probably already knew that).

The book of Revelation is a book of prophecy. Therefore the event it is describing in ch 12 must be a future event. The birth of Jesus had already happened and would be an odd prophecy to make 100 years after it had already happened! God Bless :)
