Oh yes, the characters rule my stories, and I have little control over them. Occasionally they will say or do something that surprises me as I'm typing.QUOTE]

It's really strange when that happens, but it certainly does. I tried to explain how it happens to my best friend once; she didn't get it. All she said was, "You're the one who wrote it down." :sigh: non-writers just don't get it I guess

Its a science fiction, I guess you can call it a space operah:p But I'm trying my best to make the books somewhat original. I've drawn from numerous inspirations for these books, and not just from science fiction stories.

I guess there are some Biblical themes too, not a lot and they weren't intentional but they are there. Right now I'm making outlines for all six books so I know where the story is heading and so I don't get stuck while working on them. It might take a while, but once I get the first couple of chapters of the Book 1 written I'll post a link where you can read them.

Mine is pure science fiction, and it has grown tremendously in scope since I initially started working on it. It started out with just an idea for a "warrior" race, ideas for which I swiped from numerous books, and then added a few touches/twists of my own. Now, it has grown into something much larger than that, and I've only barely gotten started.

hey, i'm writing a series as well . it all began when i was 14, and came up with this comic book idea, all these characters and a crazy story line. wrote a lot of it , lost it, now rewriting. didn't appreciate the original spontinaety of the story when i was younger, but now realize that its one of those ideas that can be built upon for years and years. the actual story line is written and i plan on bringing the idea to a book publisher convention ( check one out if you haven't yet, they're every where these days).most folk who have read it are like " is this copywritten , cuz if not you should" i never thought it would seem like a good idea to anyone else when i first came up with it. i thought i'd get laughed at. hey, goes to show even a kid can come up with a great idea for a novel. i just wish my parents were more supportive and less dysfunctional when i was growing up, maybe i'd have taken my writing more seriously and gotten published sooner. maybe i would have even gone to college. naa.

I have a question. I'm working on the research for book and find myself at crossroads deciding which war to choose. My main character is Antaeus, a soldier from Athens who is chosen by the gods to put down the invading forces. Now, I can't decide who they are. The book will be working with the diffrent planes of authority, with the gods, the kings, the generals, and the soldiers. So, I should I use Xerxes and make it the Persian Wars, whoever and the Pelopensian Wars, or the Roman conquest of Greece?

If you wish for this Antaeus to be a victorious hero, the Persian wars would be your best bet, since it is the only war of those you mentioned that the Athenians actually won. Although, the Pelopponesian wars might make for some nice symbolism, since they were fought by land and sea both, and since Antaeus' namesake was also killed through, shall we say, overextension.

I've always wanted to write a book, but Its so hard to stick to you're stories and after writing little tidbits here and there I've run out of ideas. And another thing, I've heard that unless you are a really, really good writer, it costs a lot to get your book published.

Vanity publishers don't really distinguish between "good or bad" writing. If you're paying for it, then it costs. ;) But if you're really good, go for either an agent or a publishing house that doesn't require agented manuscripts first, I say.

I should say something, aside from the quote above. ;-) First - Willow's ideas is cool! I started getting visual imagery in my head while reading and that is always a good thing :)
And yea, I am writing some epics. At the moment I am concentrating on a trilogy - an "otherworld" fantasy, a friend says it has some gothic elements to it, I peg it a darker than usual fantasy lol.... and it's tentatively titled a Triad of Shadow and Fire, with the first one called Book of the Accursed, the second is Shadow's People, and the Third - not quite sure yet. I just finished the outline and have to add about 5 more chapters into Book 1 (based on a friend's opinion that there wasn't enough focus on one particular culture) and I have TONS of scenes, excerpts etc - that I have to cut & paste into the actual body of the storyline.
A lot of the novel actually had some characters that DID take over, so a great deal of the story wrote itself, I am happy to say :)
I'm getting ready to submit to Tor Publishers in about a month or so (I have to buy some ink for the printer, I am totally out)
Here is a teaser line from one of the chapters. I don't have a one page synopsis yet.

“But you will die in fire.” The spirit whispered. “Needless and painful it will be.”

“Painful, yes. Needless?” He smiled sadly. “Centuries shall pass. You wait for a child to grow into an adult of terrible power. I wait for an unborn spirit who will temper that power. When God's chosen reads of my fate, my death shall not be Needless.”

Yeah. Ive been writing one (I think...), yet it really doesnt link together too much. It drives me nuts. Cant believe how many people out there write, and yet there are only few books that get published and sent out into the world. I dont know if ANYTHING can go past HP but david eddings, He rocks:clap: . Ive been trying to write a novel about a 17yr old male who is chosen to save the world of the Time Warps and Time Holes. Goes into different time zones, meets all these villans and all that. Sounds typical hey:blush: . Well its soo not easy to write. So good luck all of you's who have given it a go and cant wait to read them!!!!! The plots sound interesting.;)
