"techno"

I suppose you should be a little more specific. Trance, house, drum and bass, etc....

My favorite types of electronic music are breaks/breakbeat, jungle, drum and bass, and some IDM (Daedelus, I'm looking at you). However, right now I mainly listen to jazz, hiphip, and electronic/jazz fusion.

You know, i've wondered about techno... and using it for the Lord.
I got started on techno through drug use, and although i'm just guessing, i would think that a lot of people get to it through drugs. Not everyone, so don't get all upset. Thats just to set up this point...

if you can put down beats, why not put them down... then insert some stirring scripture or verse in the middle of it with a woman's voice or so. That would be interesting!

especially if it took off and was on high up the charts... i would venture to say that that verse would get itself stuck in someone's head... and might turn them to the Lord.

First, I'm sorry you've had problems in the past, but techno linked to drug use!? Please!!! Any kind of music can be "started" through drug use - so why bring down techno music in a thread that's about who listens to it?

Sorry, back to the OP....

I love techno music! Some of my Favs are Paul Van Dyk, Darude, DJ Keoki. I just wish techno was more popular. None of the radio stations where I live air it. :(

If you want to hear some good techno music go to http://www.digitallyimported.com/

Um, I didn't get into Electronic Dance Music because of drugs. And they do have Christian EDM. They even have Christian raves. My friend DJ's for Christian raves all the time.

I love Trance and Breaks. My favorite DJs are some of the more obvious ones. I like old school Paul Oakenfold, particularly The Perfecto Compilation. I like DJ Icey and DJ Baby Anne. John Digweed. Although I must say, hands down, my all time favorite DJ is DJ Sasha. I also have another friend who used to be a rave DJ who spins Trance and his stuff is off the hook.

No matter how much we would all like to deny it, the fact is that electronic music has always been surrounded by a lifestyle and culture that is less than to be desired. If you have been to any large show it is quite apparent.

That doesn’t mean the music is inherently bad, it just means there is a GREAT opportunity to reach troubled youth. I used to be very involved with our local drum n bass scene in Houston and ran an international website. I invested a lot of time interviewing successful djs and had a blast while doing it. But I also began to realize the great need for some sort of ministry to meet people involved with that exciting scene that were lost and looking for something more. I am still interested in getting involved again somehow, but I feel that God will lead me in the right direction. I have always felt that often church groups have fallen out of touch in reaching many young people, especially within the electronic/nightlife scenes.

Now as far as my personal tastes, what don’t I like is a better question. As time passes on and I become older, I have grown a large taste for soulful & Chicago house. And, yes there is some electronic music that is decidedly “Christian” although the distinction is hardly noticeable considering most of the music doesn’t have a clear verbal message in the first place. A lot of older drum n bass/ jungle music have scriptures in the songs, and I would always get a smile on my face when I would hear it over the speakers at a party. I have some of them on record in my office…

Not many types of music can compare to the energy found in electronic music scenes. It’s simply beautiful and amazing.

Yeah, that's true of most popular music today, no matter what scene you're into.

I went to Movement in Detroit last summer and it was really cool. I got more than my money's worth, since it is a free show :)! We only stayed during the daytime and even though the place was crawling with cops there was still some heavy drug use. A aquaintance of mine with a keen nose said she could smell pot, ex, a few other drugs I can't remember, and "hmm, I've never smelled that before". And she knows her drugs, she's now a drug rehab counsellor.

But that Music Institute tent was great. And there was a Christian walking around, dressed like he was from the Matrix. Fun stuff.
