Dear BloodFire. When Jesus was on Earth, He taught His disciples to pray: " Our Father, who art in Heaven," etc. We pray to God, our Father in Heaven, and we always finish by saying, " in Jesus`s Name," to let God know that we accept the Sacrifice of Jesus, and know that He is now with the Father, to plead our prayers to God. We can also pray to the Holy Spirit, who is here on Earth to teach us about Jesus and His work of Redemption, and we finish each prayer, " in Jesus Name, we ask this." I say this humbly and lovingly, BloodFire, and send greetings. Emmy, sister in Christ.

In my opinion, You should pray to all 3 in the holy trinity. The reason for praying is to ask god that you need help, or you could thank god in a pray. Its like talking to god but not regular talking, this is asking god for guidence, forgiveness, truth, and protection.

Its really up to you about what you want to pray about, but remember god answers in his own way and it may be completely different from what you expected.

Hope this helped, and GOD BLESS YOU! :crossrc:

ok.. this confuses me.
who do you guys pray to most?

Generally I don't specify.

if you pray to Jesus or the Holy Ghost.. when.. why? what does praying to them do?
Jesus and the Holy Ghost are both actively working in the world, so why would praying to them be a problem?

how do you decide who to pray to, if you can choose between them? or don't you specify in prayer?
Prayers to the Holy Ghost are usually to ask him to come upon a person (the prayer or another) to bring wisdom, courage, strenght or whatever. Alternatively, these might be phrased to the Father or to Jesus to "send the holy ghost to...."

There aren't clear demarkations - but then I don't think God has a stroppy union to complain if we get it wrong.

The Trinity is one of the hardest aspects of the christian faith to understand.
It is something that seems to be beyond the full understanding of the human brain. How can creatures ever understand the Creator?
BUT the bible clearly teaches that all the persons of the Trinity are God, one and indivisible.
Therefore, it doesn't really matter which person of the trinity I pray to. I address the different persons of God at different times, but the One God hears and answers my prayers!

Sorry if that was a bit waffley!! It's one of those things I can never fully understand, so it's kind of hard to explain what I think!

Bless you.

Hi,out of habit, I pray to the Father, but during that prayer, i will then pray to Jesus. Sometimes to the Holy Spirit. Since they are one; it really doesn't matter.

Jesus couldn't pray to himself on earth, so when he showed them to pray he prayed to the Father.

Sometimes I say Dear Lord or God.

I don't believe it matters which of the trinity you pray to. Generally, if a Christian is raising children, they teach them to speak to Jesus, because it's more understandable for children. Many children are early taught the song, Jesus loves me this I know for the bible tells me so, little ones to Him belong, we are weak but He is strong, yes Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me, Yes, Jesus loves me, the bible tells me so.

God bless.

LOL God having a temper tantrum!! :D:D:D  sorry couldn't help it! if you believe in the trinity.. i guess he wouldnt mind.. bt i dont believe in the trinity.. and its unbiblical to pray to the Holy Ghost or Jesus... its not in the Bible is it?

God goes by many differnt names in the bible.

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?

Well, let's see I did a quick search of Psalms but came up empty in praying to the Spirit, but that doesn't mean it's not in the bible, I just need to search more.

the ones below I chose say Lord or God, and one Jesus..Since Jesus is God and Lord, they are praying to the one God. It really doesn't matter who you pray to. God is one.

a prayer to Jesus:

While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."

Jesus is God, is Lord
'Who are you, Lord?' I asked.
" 'I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting,' he replied. 9My companions saw the light, but they did not understand the voice of him who was speaking to me.
.

Here's some things I found in the bible:
Then they prayed, "Lord, you know everyone's heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen

When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. "Sovereign Lord," they said, "you made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.

Then Simon answered, "Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me."

He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly.

Blessings,
tapero

Well bloodfire, I pray to God, the one and only. This question would make much more sense if I was a pagan, but I believe that there is one God. The holy Spirit, I'm still not sure what it is, but it is not the God I pray to.It is just what Pentecostals like me believe :) I pray to God, but I prefer to call it talking to him, because he loves us. I also talk to Jesus, and yes,he does answer me. All the time now that I'm close to him. You have to refer to him as a friend, because he in the Bible said so. My friend, who is much closer with the Holy Spirit then me, can speak in tougues(he is 10 years old)and during a very spiritual prayer, he later told me he saw Jesus take him by the hand, he did not see his face, he saw his hand.

God is a trinity: The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Jesus the Son, and The Father are one. While on Earth, Jesus did not want us to worship him. But when he went back to the Father, he was glorified.

Jesus was placed in the womb of Mary by the Holy Spirit, and by the Resurrection returned to the Father.

Read John Chapter 14-17.

Also, Jesus is referred to as The Lord.
God is also referred to as The Lord.
The old testament says that you can only worship The Lord, your God only with all your heart, mind, and soul.

The Father and The Son both are named Jesus.
Both are named The Lord.
Both have glory in heaven.
Both existed before Abraham
Both are called "I am"
To get to the Father, you must go through the Son.
To get to God, you must go through God.

confusing!!! im a simple girl LOL
it seems too complex!!

Hi Bloodfire,

It can be complex, but that's why we accept a lot of things on faith. Jesus said we must become childlike in our faith and that it's impossible to please God without faith.

Although many things about the Christian faith can be mysterious, even small children can understand the Gospel. They are truly pure in heart because they don't question everything. I'm not saying we are to have blind faith, but some things we will never know this side of heaven.

Prayer is part of a natural relationship with God. I usually pray directly to the Father, acknowledging that only because of Jesus am I able to approach the throne of grace boldly. But like Tapero said, it doesn't really matter if you pray directly to Jesus or God because they are One. I'll often ask the Holy Spirit to help me find the words to express my heart when I'm having a hard time concentrating. The Holy Spirit is there to help us and comfort us and bring us closer to God.

Hope this helped a little :)

I don't think it matters. Regardless whether we address our prayer to the Father, the Son or the Spirit, we are addressing the same one God.

Personally, I tend to address my prayers to 'God' or 'Lord'.
I really think it is a personal choice. It is not prescriptive.
